5 'BBQ-1 lt is with deepest consideration that we the Seniors ot l956 dedicate this yearbook to our pastor, Rt. Rev. Monsignor Aloysius C. Dineen, P.A., whose fatherly interest in every school activity has been an inspiration to every Agnesian. Who con forget those timely maxims which have been so instru- mental in molding better, enlightened Chris- tian convictions? May God's blessings ever continue to tructity the tireless devotedness ot a true Shepherd towards his flock. -'sf Q x wg 0 ix! Q Only a stone's throw from our school, along Third Avenue the old elevated rail- way used to rumble past 114th Street on its daily rounds with a dauntless clantor that seemed indestructible, The EL and the school were youngsters back in l900, and now the familiar old transportation line is a thing ol the past, but St, Agnes yet stands This is our final tribute to an old friend .. A Always and above all, Blessed Champag- nat was a client of Mary, giving his fol- lowers the name Little Brothers of Mary - placing all their projects under her auspices and seeking to promote the life of Mary in all the students confined to their care. His every ,priestly move was clone only after appeal to Mary and in her name. Misunder- standings, conflict, faintheartedness and even treachery threatened his work, but in his frail health supported by an indomitable will, he overcame opposition and almost in- superable obstacles He died at the early age of 51 a martyr to his desire to bring all the world to Jesus through Mary For Blessed Champagnat the Blessed Vir gin was everything Mother Model and Patroness For his Brothers she was to be the first Superioress To love Mary t serve her to make her loved and served by children as a means of loving and serving Christ such was his ideal and sole ambition All for Jesus through Mary' All to Mary for Jesus' was the motto he left to his Little Brothers of Mary lt is not surprising that she whom he called his Ordinary Re source favoured him with special protection and ultimate success O tender Mother Mary deign to keep us to fructlfy our work and to sanctify us BLESSED CHAMPAGNAT in-!'r X? Gabriel's poetry When pegs were banned Yackeren's lunches Collecting for the TV Top Senior Teachers Like the fiery Saint Paul, Blessed Champagnat championed the cry of spreading the gospel of Christ to all nations. To do this, Blessed Champagnat instructed with assiduity and caution those young men who were later to be torch-bearers of the gospel truths. Thus the Blessed Founder's roll as Chris- tian educator has left its impression not only upon his disciples, but upon all methodologists, for indeed the promotion of Catholic education has been the distinctive characteristic of his priestly life. Wishing the Brothers to keep in mind that edu- cation pertained to the whole man-body and soul-his thoughts on this point may be synthesized in the following points: formation of the intelligence, heart, mind, will, iudg- ment, character, and love of work. Indeed, Father Champag- nat was cognizant of the fact that true education not only interests itself in the physical, but also realized the need of the spiritual. As a candle wears itself out by the constant diffusing of its light and warmth, so too, the man whose memory still lingered on finally came to the point of total exhaustion. His death was not a sad one, for happy is he who has spent his life under the auspices of Mary, of whom it is written- They that explain me shall have life everlasting. Spending himself for God and the betterment of the nation through the Chris- tian education of youth, Blessed Champagnat remains forever a beacon light in the path his followers are to tread. 28 ww .A yr f 'f I ki 4 h v Q' Q ' x W I 'u QV . 1: xo 00 , G ,. .TQ u O 'A 51-5 Q. Because it was later found that the question was phrased wrong- ly, the sponsors and N.B.C. decided to give him a third try at the big money. He was asked to identify a tune and its writers, or else to sing and play it on his ukulele. He suc- cessfully sang and played Me and My Shadow and won the iackpot. Since then, he has appear- ed on the Perry Como Show, the Quiz Kids, and other tele- vision and radio programs. When George said that he would be splitting the 5100,- OO0 with me and my sha- dow, he didn't say who his shadow we. Maybe it was Uncle Sam, who is taking about 554,000 of his loot.
