During his long laborious life in prayer, sacrifice and action, Pius XII dedicated himself totally to the service of Cod. In his great pater- nal, pastoral heart he embraced each individual man, woman, and child of every race, color and creed. On October 10, 1958 the world lost a truly great man. The death of His Holiness Pope Pius XII meant the departure of the most impartial, most devoted peacemaker in our weary, warring world. Now he looks down from heaven and en- courages us to strive for the ideals for which he stood. To Pius the Peacemaker, Pius the just, Pius the Merciful, Pius the Pontifex-O Lord, grant eternal rest! or there is but one flock and one shepherd. la. . A POPE JOHN XXIII His Holiness POPE PIUS XII Catholics throughout the world rejoiced at the election of our new Holy Father, His Holiness Pope john XXIII. The new Pontiif brought to his sacred office the ability, experience and training to become our spiritual leader. His elevation to the Papacy climaxed a life of service to the church as a professor, linguist, author, and scholar. He cour- ageously proclaims the Gospel of Christ and is a strong promoter of the Catholic press. We trust that the Vicar of Christ will guide the footsteps of mankind in the ways of peace. We pray that the 262nd successor of St. Peter will have a peaceful reign directing the Church and strengthening the Mystical Body of Christ.
