I RETROSPECT Without a doubt, the past year was an eventful one, making its mark on the face of history. The year had its great moments and difficult times. Like any- thing, it had its light and serious side, and in every case, it affected the lives of Agnesians in some way. The Worlds Fair came to New York in April, making it the first one here since 1939 . . . Pope Paul VI made his historical visit to the Holy Land . . . New advances were made in science . . . In sports, the Yankees dropped four in a row to the Dodgers,fYogi Berra became the most popular Yankee manager in baseball history and the U.S. took a beating in the Winter Olympics . . . Throughout the year, the cold war continued, sometimes a slight thaw, then a frigid hardening. Americans gave their lives in the cause of freedom as fight- ing continued in Viet Nam . . . In November tragedy struck when an assassin's bullet took our thirty-fifth president, john F. Kennedy and suddenly we were in a new period of history. Lyndon B. johnson became the new president . . . Famous writer, Aldous Huxley was taken by the Grim Reaper . . . In movies, Cinerama went in full bloom and the Cardinal was big all around . . . Jack Benny celebrated his thirty-ninth birthday . . . Soundtracks were big sellers in music. Another sound that was big was that of those boys from Britain, the Beatles. We thought it over and found the Mersey sound to be the old Ameri- can sound. Elvis Presley added more gold records to his giant collection . . . Agnesians read more paperbacks, saw more movies and bought more records than usual . . . More in the local vein, the Varsity and Jay Vee basketball teams finished first and second. Bowling was also tops . . . Agnesians displayed more school spirit than ever before . . . The school library was officially opened . . . The Stag took on a new look . . . A new neighborhood sprouted up around our school . . . We studied hard for exams and passed them . . . We certainly canit forget our new principal, Brother W. james Kearney who got the show on the road, and also the members of the faculty, editors joseph Colacicco and Nicholas Chiovetta of the Agnesian and Stag, the student councilmen and the entire student body all did their share and earned their vacation. Well, what kind of year has it been? It's been a year you and I have had a little more experience, a little more joy and perhaps some heartbreak. But all in all, it was worth it. We have progressed another step in maturity and now the year is over. Some time in the future look back at this yearbook and this page particularly, and remember all that happened, and then you will also remember that you were-undeniably a very real part of it . . . These were times to remember. The editor wishes to thank all who made this yearbook possible. 95
