A student must, therefore, supply his life with an adequate basis, much as a builder must furnish an edifice with a strong foundation. For the stu- dent, the best and most rewarding building block for the future is a proper Christian education. Catholi- cism is the most effective foe of materialism, and with the support of Catholic youth, the Church will abet the world to build for a bet- ter future. if air-. in -z . ff'-RT' We ye' 'Qu K .f ji J J 'fn' s. 6 . . SEHMIJN IN STUNE For a full year now, the drama of constructing a modern building has been unfolding before the eyes of students at St. Agnes. The scene of all this bustling activity is a location directly opposite the school building on 44th Street for a new Korvette Department Store. Agnesians have watched in the capacity of side- walk engineers as dynamite blast- ed into rock foundations. Cranes and trucks cleared the rubble, steel rods enforced the concrete columns while an army of skilled mechanics went about their various tasks. Ap- plying the analogy to scholastic achievement, the message is clear -building for tomorrow requires planning, organization and plenty of consistent work. fun v. A' In pre-season practice, one of the Stag players told coach Tom Mor- gan that he had dreamt of St. Agnes' winning the City Championship in basketball. That dream was never realized in its entirety, but never- theless all who followed the Stags this year agree unanimously that- the season was a successful one. We captured the first place trophy in the Private School league with a record of 10-O. We earned third place in the tough Catholic High School league, compiling a 5-5 record. Our non-league record came to 5-4, giving us an overall complete season record of 20 wins and 9 losses. Our wins could be attributed to our excellent shooting ability C4O'M5l, good rebounding C32 per gamel, and accurate foul shooting C55'M:J. In general, our losses could be traced to poor defensive ability and a tendency at times to lose our poise in close games, thereby causing us to lose possession of the ball on an average of 19 times a game. In great measure, this is another way of saying that we lacked that all important factor of experience, a point we were all aware of before the season began, since this was our first year of varsity competition. However, the future looks bright. Five seasoned and experienced players will return next September and they will be assisted by a good nucleus coming up from the Junior Varsity. So, like the Dodgers of old, we hopefully say, Wait 'till next year! 3. .1 1, -.1 ,,,, ,,. i :fg- iii!- f :av sEAsoN's STATISTICS 'E Total Aver- Shoot- Re- Recov- Points age ing 'X-1 bounds Assists eries Q 5-fe c.
