MY FIIESHMA YEAR When September finally rolls around, It is then I begin to hear Rumors that I am bound To enioy my freshman year. Each time I pass the chapel by I think of You so very near- Who from Your place way up high Will bless my freshman year. My hours are filled with pleasure- No time to shed a tear, There is no rule to measure My happy freshman year. I thank Thee, Lord, for my freshman year, With all its ioys and sorrows- For all its memories I hold so dear- In Your hands I leave the tomorrows. Mary Beth Heyl, '58 THERE WA A LITTLE Fl H There was a little fish The fishie's name was Sal Sally was a dish A very pretty gal. One day she went a-fishin' A-fishin' at the lake And she was iust a-wishin' The honor roll she'd make. Three tests she'd have on Monday If she could only 'think But every time she closed the book Her mind went on the blink. I wish I were a real fish The kind that runs in schools I have an awful time Remembering all these rules. With Algebra and English And all these other books It isn't any wonder l'm always on the hooks. But she sat down and studied Till it was late at 'night And when the tests came 'round She knew she'd done all right. ln this story The Frosh is Sal She could be you Or your best pal. FRESHMAN YEAR Dear Diary: Gee, I'm in high school now. Please meet St. Agnes, Diary, because I have a feeling you'll be hearing quite a lot of her from now on. Initiation Days ------ Diary, you wouldn't know me with all these pigtails and ribbons I'm wearing. The seniors really lay it on. My 'big Sister' sure is nice, though. You'd like her. By the way, just call me 'fishf Everyone else does. Class Days ------ Diary, ou will find the Freshmen in Homerooms 4, 5, 6, and 11. Our teachers are so much fun and wonderful to us. Sister Mary Iames keeps everybody on the watch with her Nifties. Sister Beatrice is so helpful during those Latin classes. Sister Evelyn made our science class complete when she took us on a field trip to radio station KTH T. Diary, do you know where X is? Sister james Marie told us to find it, but I don't know where to look. And I met Shakespeare in English today. Miss McCullough introduced us. T he quality of mercy. . f' Do I sound like Portia to you? Going once, going twice, sold to the girl in the red sweater! These phrases were heard repeat- edly during the day, as the Latin I class help their slave auction. And our beloved Principal, Sister Loyola, sure makes a lowly little 'fish' feel important when she stops to talk to you.. Evaluation Day ------ Oh, my aching back. Diary, I don't know who got the most paint, me or my desk. Singing commercials were heard over the P. A. about shoeshines, pickle sales, etc. Itls a real madhouse. You see we're getting St. Agnes ready for her big date with the evaluators, who come around every 4 years at this time. Class Favorites ------ 4 Oh, how excited we were to hear the returns of our big election. Mary Mead got most rep- resentative, Nancy Branch, most popular, and T hamer Sacco, most beautiful. Holidays ------ At S. A. A. we do up everything in a beautiful spirit at Christmas. Our candle fest was gor- geous. Fannin traffic just stopped to look at the effective live crib scene on the front porch and the Christmas carols sounded beautiful in the twilight. ' SOPHOMORE YEAR Dear Diary: Are you with me? Well, here come our sophomore days! First Day ------ Dig those crazy, mixed up freshmen, Dairy! Were we ever that confused? The sophs invaded Rooms 8, 12, Chemistry, and Biology Labs. Our teachers are: Sister Stephana, who sure can tell a book by its cover! fpardon the pun, Diaryj Sister Evelyn, who was promoted to the 10th grade along with her fish',, Sister Timothy, a promoter of school spirit as her famous Biology Labers will testify as they lead all competition. And Diary, you know Miss Elder? I'll never forget her' English classes! We pull many stunts in harmless fun, believe me, the dunce seat out in the hall is always occupied by some ever-playful soph. Remember the day we buckled everybody's belts together and dropped a sign, saying Hello, Biolo y Labers! from our second story window? Wonder how our Operation Greeting affected them as it floated out of the sky?
