Altll E It was dark that night as I wandered alone . . . In to my silent haven of rest, Dark, so dark, as I was tired . . . But hopeful that He would hear my request. I paused for a moment and looked toward Him And I saw that He, too, was alone. For tonight His church was empty of all. No one had come to God's quiet home. I knelt and I prayed for my special wish Saying the prayers I hold so dear, And I kind of heard His soft reply, And I kind of knew He would hear. I lit a candle, and prayed again As the sun went down on another day . . Then I tiptoed out and silently said, Good night, Dear God, I wish I could stay. Now days have passed, and I'm back again To whisper another word. This time, I say, Thank you, God, I'm so very glad that You heard. Now, I wish I could tell the whole wide world That God is their very own . , . And that He will answer their wishes, too Then, He would not be alone. I Barbara Brophy, '56
