Ulll' THKUKQI Come wztb Me mio a desert place and le! us rest awhzle The girls of St Agnes paused m then' scholastic year to heed these words of Our Lord The Academy halls knew that the Retreat of 1939 had begun For some it was their first retreat at St Agnes for others it was their last for all it was the days set aside for the most important event of the year For the first time m the history of the Academy two retreats were given one for the Freshmen and Sophomores the other for the Jumors and Seniors Conferences given and questions answered were especially adapted for the various groups This division met the generous approval of all concerned and added much to the spmtual success of the retreat Special mentlon must be made of our Retreat Master Reverend Ambrose Smith O P Too much appreciation could not be shown of his genuine interest kind consideration personal contacts and endurmg patlence during these days which mean so much not only now but always Our grateful prayers will follow him that God may make frultful his missionary labors in our beloved Southland The careful and prayerful retreat CXCYCISCS begmnmg each day with Holy Mass focused the days to come uestnons asked and answered proposals made and accepted all were honored by His presence and sanctified by His blesslng The Feast of Our Lady was fittingly observed durmg our retreat by the reception mto her Sodality of seventy two of this year s aspirants This event IS always impressive but with a number larger than ever before participating at St Agnes it will long remam in the memories of those Witnessmg It The Closing Mass was said by Reverend J B Connolly O P another friend of the St Agnes Girls They were glad to renew the acquaintance of and to wish well to one who had been wnth them before as a guide and helper The days of retreat have gone its memories remam May its seeds take root in the hearts that so generously welcomed its advent' A VISIT You step znto the cool darkness The church zs dzm and quiet Far ahead a red lzght burns and dances Remznder of Hrs Power and Mrght You drop to your knees m adoratzon Prayng for help and advice To Hzm alone Who loves you most Your Lord and Sauor jesus Chnst BETH WRIGHT 40 ff ' ' ' jj , . . . 9 . . 3 . , . 5 . . , . , . i . . . . . , . . . , 7 , . et xx - ' ' - and ending with Benediction will remain as hallowed memories from which can be ' Q l 2 ai - , , ' s . . , . ., I I 1 3 sl ' , V I , , l Y I
