El Dulgrnmagz nf'1Eurlag A Natxonal Euchanstxc Congress nn our own beloved Southl Thxs was the opportunxty of a lxfetune, and we took rt Along wnth thousands of pmlgnms from all over the world, we arrxved rn the Catholxc clty of New Orleans, October the seventeenth The statxon, lndeed the whole metropohs was decorated reverently wlth Eucharxstxc emblems The sxghts were beautxful as we rode down the flower decked boulevards of the clty High above the Sacred Heart Church was a large cxborxum of golden chrysanthemums, and whrte carnatxons wxth a whrte cardboard crrcle formmg the Host Monday nxght at the Cxty Audxtorxum the Governor of Louxsxana, a representatxve of the Mayor Postmaster James Farley and Cardmal Mundelem spoke The audntonum was packed but there were loud speakers so that people standmg outsxde could hear In one wmg of the audxtornum there were a hundred altars for the V1SltlI1g pnests to use durmg thexr stay Tuesday mormng Pontxfical H1gh Mass was celebrated at a hugh altar erected mn the well known Sugar Bowl The Cardmal was there lookmg none the worse for the shower he had recenved the day before just before the Consecratxon the ram started pounng agam But the 1mmense crowd remamed quretly m place esteemmg thxs trxal only a small test of therr devotxon Tuesday nxght there was a Mxdmght Mass at the Audltonum Before Mass varxous Bxshops from all over the Unnted States addressed the congregatxon The place was so crowded that there were cars parked for three mrles on erther snde of the buxldmg The Chnldren s Pontxfical Solemn Hugh Mass was held at Cxty Park Stadlum on Wed nesday mornmg We had good seats nn the center of the Stadxum The altar was xm mense wlth a double crucxfix rn the center facmg both sxdes In the center front were prnests nuns school chxldren, collegxates and a chxldren s choxr composed of thousands of chxldren who had practxsed the Mass for a year The school boys wore wlute suxts and the grrls wore wlute dresses and capes of vaned colors each representmg a dxiferent parxsh The pastel colors made a strnkmg contrast to the black caps and gowns of the college students The Bxshops wore lxght red vestments which blended wlth the soft golden flowers adornmg the mam altar These scenes remmded us of the ever changmg colors m a kaleidoscope Thursday at twelve o clock there was a processnon of exghty thousand worshxppers from the audrtorxum to the Stadxum Seven hours had passed before all the people as sembled for Benedlctxon These are but a few hnghlnghts of the Congress Other ceremonnes were held at the same trmes allowmg each person to choose that whxch mterested lum most In trmes hke these when the lxves of people are bemg endangered because of war and stnfe and terronsm what a wonderful thmg rt 15 to vxew a great demonstratlon of fanth such as thxs It makes us realxze that m the hearts of people there IS stxll love of God and faxth m Hrs word It grves us strength to persevere and courage to meet our dndicultles xt makes us humble and grateful ln the knowledge of what a stupendous blessmg IS thls wonderful faith of ours ROSEMARY GRLESPIE, 39 DOROTHY ZAGST, 39 D ! . .. . . - . . , . 9 ' - . . . .. .. . s s 1 - , . s . 1 - , , - s - 1 s ' 1 . . , . . . . s 3 ' ' . . . . , . a 9 9 ' 1 2 . - a . 1 ' - . 9 . . , . 2 . . . .. . . v - n . ... . s I .
