THE CRUSADER BICENTENNIAL EDITION VOLUME 22 ★ ★ ★ In this, the Bicentennial year, we the Staff, Editors, and Sponsor of the St. Agnes Crusader take this opportunity to salute our nation’s 200th birthday with this 1976 Bicentennial edition. Her strength and unity in diversity can be an example to us all. 1975 AND 1976 i DEDICATION Mr. Richard Boness COACH TEACHER SUPERINTENDENT FRIEND Mr. Richard W. Boness served the Academy five years as head foot- ball coach, high school superin- tendent. teacher, school board advisor, and junior high basket- ball coach. Few other faculty members in the history of St. Agnes were as well-like or respected. The announcement of his resignation was greeted by most with schock. Whatever his future may hold, we ask that he look back on his years at SAA with fondness, and never forget us, because we'll never forget him. 2 contents introduction.....................1 dedication.......................2 faculty..........................5 seniors..........................9 underclassmen...................15 activities .....................25 athletics.......................45 awards..........................61 advertisements..................69 conclusion...................82-86 autographs...................87-88 4 RICHARD BONESS: Superintendent, Soci- ology, Football Coach. Each Sophomore wafted about the halls in scary sheets. Junior spirit day, Wednesday, was Crazy Days. The crazy Juniors picked this day to dress wackier than usual. Thursday, the Seniors surprised everybody with a very different spirit day, where each senior had a different slogan pinned on his back, and wore outfit to match. Pep Club rounded out the week with Hush Day on Friday. Mr. Bill Kunzman won Mr. Irresistible.” Homecoming Queen and King were Miss Sally O'Connor and John Brittan. Retreat master was Father Ted Nichol- izik. Everyone got to know each other a little better when impromptu interviews were held, one freshman to one sopho- more . Later group discussions were led by assistant nuns and priests at the retreat. The main topic of discussion was feel- ings. The last day committees were cho- sen and a mass was set up to end two days of a good retreat. a ST. What appears to be a rumble, turns out to be a long gain, as was the story of the Crusaders' blocking ability. The left side of the Crusaders' defense had a stable performance all year. After five years at St. Agnes Academy, Coach Dick Boness and the Crusaders estab- lished a 9-0-0 season. An excellent season had been anticipated but the unexpected hap- pened when the team was not allowed to play in Nebraska's first football play-off because of a technicality. Nevertheless they had a tremendous season. Nine seniors had gone through the school of hard knocks in 1973 and learned their lessons well. The 1976 seniors completed a fine high school career. - Coach Boness Terry Saylor, No. 18, is in the process of eluding a Crawford defender. 48 VOLLEYBALL Varsity squad members are (left to right) Carolyn Kloch, Anne Kosmicki, Jodene Brennan, Patty Weare, coach Teri Happ, Nancy Powell, Sally O’Connor, Cheryl Brennan, and Carol Kunzman. This has been my best season in four years at St. Agnes. Our 14-10 record did not indicate our true season. The team using a run and gun style was very effective throughout the season against Panhandle Conference teams. Early in the season the record was at 7-1 and it appeared that we were the team to beat. But due to a midseason Freshman team members are: (first row, left to right) Jeff Colerick, Matt Brennan, Coach Walker, Chris Brittan, Jim Burke, (second row, left to right) Mark Lynn, Chuck Allen, John Hoffman, and Brett Boness. The boys’ track team did send two people to state. Vince Martin went to state in the long jump and sophomore Tom Manning took District honors in the triple jump. The 2- mile relay team of Tom Manning, Rod Farritor, Jeff Egnoske and Ed Burke, missed a chance at state because of an official's ruling that Burke cut it too soon and made con- tact with another runner. Brian Vinton has joined the Ringling Brothers - Bamum and Baily Circus with his famous windmill act and will soon earn enough money to buy the MJP Ranch. In ten years the F.B.I. will finally catch John Brittan for violating the curfew in Lincoln. He will then play all his golf in the state penitentiary recreation facility. Sharon Miskimen has gone into the bootlegging business behind the Snack Shack at the Alliance Starlite Drive- In. We don't know where Vince Martin will be because he will still be on his ego trip. However every morning at breakfast he will repeat his solemn vow of Lego my ego. 85 autographs I am not in this world to live up to your expectations, nor you to mine. I am I, and you are you; and if by chance we find each other, it’s beautiful.
