Have any queens? Go fish! Welcome to the Senior Room! We see the hourglass: Time slowly slips through our fingers. But we can't stop the sun So we kiss the flowers, embrace earth, And jostle the wind. Our eyes reflect the vivacity of youth Knowing it’s an image That one pebble can ripple away. We've come to the other shore. God, the wine's bitter! Oh, if we cry with the rain, we soon Lose ourselves in puddles. Stopping means death to flowers, Earth, and wind. I've tried to hold the moonbeams, Tried to capture the spring gusts. They're far too crafty for me. Time--it mercilessly torments me. The horizon lies ahead— I recognize the tune. . . You are the light of the world. ' The Seniors symbolically rededicate their lives to Christ at the final Mass. Many took their anxieties out on things other than people. In the end three things remain: faith, hope, and love; and the greatest of these is love. - - St. Paul A three-day sojourn at Bethlehem, S.D., helped the Seniors to reorganize their thoughts and to re- consider their ambi- tions. This retreat will provide many longlasting memories, and more importantly, will serve as a guide in the years to come. Each time we sit down to eat, we celebrate our communion, and praise the Lord for the cornucopia of gifts that He has bestowed upon His creatures. In our small Crusader community, for five days we set aside our desire to change the world—five days of tradi- tion: Spirit Week. Victory streamers of blue and white brightly decorate the classrooms. Each class rampages the halls with war cries, trying to make up for lost time spent in silence. The bonfire semi-culminates the week with news of the king and queen candidates and the most spirited class. Mornings of the fifth day: Mass, spirit, game, coronation, dance, and we all see that it is good. Academy Award Night, the Burning of the A , revealed the Juniors as the most spirited class. The A Club announced Homecoming candidates as Donna Applegarth, Cathy Burke, and Colleen Manion. GAA choices for king were: Ed Kunzman, Doug Abbott, Tom Murphy, and Dave Leon. Crowned at the pep rally the next day were: Cathy Burke, Queen, Colleen Manion and Donna Applegarth, atten- dants; Dave Leon, King. (Who's kidding whom?) 1974 Varsity Cheerleaders are: Maggie Brittan, Kathy Powers, Mary Podhaisky, Ann O'Connor, and Katie Kelly. Aware that Chris is the Alpha and the Omega, game days are be- gun with a game Mass. Incarnate lay the snow by my hand ... and the temptation was too great ... Who can paint a wondrous winter- land on the wall? A place to frolic in the frosty snow? On the seventh day, the SAA Pep Club didn't rest, but came to design their own Snow Frolic — Pep Club Formal 1974. Dancin’ in The floral entrance welcomes the dancers and onlookers to a night of Dancin' in the Moonlight. Waiting for the banquet to begin, everyone gath- ers around the fountain, the center of the garden . Junior Class Sponsor Sr. Agnes and main speaker Mr. Richard Rye are among those at the head table. Recounting the Seniors' many experiences at S.S.A. and expressing their gratitude is Senior Class President Dave Leon. The Attendants Ed And Mary The faculty and parents, S.A.A.'s backbone, chaperone the big event. 34 the Moonlight As one looks down the halls of time, the one special tradition that has left perpetual foot- prints is the Prom. This event gives the Junior Class a chance to thank the Seniors for their helpfulness, and to bid them farewell. Within the banquet and dance are touches of humor, unity, thanksgiving, counsel, fun, and tears which create an un- forgettable memory— one to look back on af- ter many years and say, I remember... The court of coronation stands in waiting for the royalty. Rome wasn't built in a day; neither was the Emerald City. Jean and Joan Kunzman were our own little Munchkin crown bearers. What could be more perfect than a yellow brick road of dreams leading to the splendid Emerald City? The Sophomores brought this to life at the Valentine Dance. Upon enter- ing the Land of Oz, one was drawn into a night of fun. Good-Bye Yellow Brick Road cast the spell for an enchanting evening full of witches, wizards and Munchkins. Mary Jo Powell and George Vinton were named the Princess and Prince of the Emerald City. VALENTINE’S A thousand mile journey begins with a single step. Crowned Wizardess and Wizard of Oz were Lynn Broad and Ed Kunzman. The Sophomores crowned Michelle Hollinrake and Mark Erickson as Duchess and Duke of Munchkin Land. DANCE welcome dance Today or yester- day? We began to wonder as the Freshman formed the old two-row- trot. Ah, do I have to?!! FRESHMAN INITIATION This is it: night of nights! This year, the day for the Freshmen was one of dressing- up, foot-kissing, table- waiting, and book-lugging. At the evening's dance their attire was of the early 50's, complete with curlers, wax curls, and aprons. Fi- nally, full of prune juice, hard-boiled eggs, and jeers from the audience, they became full-fledged members of the high school. The climax was crowning Mr. and Miss Freshman, Paul McCune and Anne Kosmicki. thank you dance In true gratitude for the Seniors' great generosity in accepting them as they are, the Freshmen said Thank You in a way no one else could. Everyone was taken back through the rocks of ages to prehistoric days, the specific locale being Bed- rock, U.S.A. They selected Margrock Brittan, and Dig Abbott as their Pebbles and Bam-Bam. Following a skater's waltz (?) by Stephanie Heitz, the night was rocked away. Yabba-dabba-doo! !! 37 This pyramid of trust was symbolic of the Junior Retreat. With the sky for a roof and birds for music, the outdoor chapel made a peaceful sanctuary. 3g The many tense card games were ample proof that much serious meditation was done. The retreat master of cere- monies, Father Courtney, helped strengthen the bonds of the class. A Mass with the theme of friendship was the perfect cli- max for the last day of retreat. Many new thoughts and surprising ideas were ex- pressed during the rap sessions. As the curtains rose, the Ba- yard Retreat House appeared on the horizon. A three-day play was to begin—Junior Re- treat. Packing away all anxi- eties and problems for a few days, the Juniors became more close-knit through group discussions, trust build- ers, and Eucharistic celebra- tions. Sr. Agnes and Burt Smith helped Fr. Courtney coordinate the events. When the curtain fell, the Juniors found themselves filled with a new spirit--ambition for the years ahead. sophomore — freshman Retreat is a blend of fun times and serious moments. Get yourselves belongings that do not wear out, treasures that will not fail you, in hea- ven where no thief can reach it and no moth destroy it. I've come to talk with you again . Carol and Sue involved in discovery. 39 “Vive les Frangais” This year, the French Club was one of the biggest ever at St. Agnes. The size and talents of the club led them to many honors during the year. Their most important achievement was when many members ranked highly in the National French Test. Moreover, they won the 1st place trophy at the Chadron State College Language Day. Shown holding the trophy is Sharon Kelly, Vice-Presi- dent and Maggie Brittan, President. Picture Hanging Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. Oh Divine Master, grant that I may never seek so much to be con- soled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are par- doned. And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. — St. Francis of Assisi Graduation Touch the wind.
