St. Elizabeth’s Convent, Heijthuijsen, Holland, the European Mother- house of the Franciscan Sisters teaching here at St. Agnes. This is where the real “Heralds of the Great King” are prepared to take up their life’s work in the service of others. TO ST. FRANCIS The trumpet sounds from Castle Spires, The Knight appears with mounted squires; The pennants fly from lofty tower As maidens wave from heav’nly bower. As sunlight gleams from breastplate bright His soul doth shine and pierce the night; His sword is held in gauntlet hand, To guide his faith throughout the land. As we like you ride up the trail Give us the strength to smite the nail; We know our life will not be easy, So bless it, Francis of Assisi. William Tragresser, ’48 TO THE FACULTY We, the seniors of nineteen hundred and forty-eight have enjoyed during our formative years the Franciscan heritage of true devotion to duty Today as we prepare to take our places in whatever little corner may be allotted to us, we turn with deep appreciation and fond grati- tude, to you, our teachers and true Franciscan “Heralds” and say so simply yet so meaningly, “We thank you.” FACULTY The Right Reverend Monsignor Manning, Religion Reverend J. “Ave Maria”, the beautiful new Angelus bell, which has been in- stalled on the roof of St. Agnes Academy. Now the Angelus ring- ing three times daily calls us to honor our Blessed Mother. This bell according to Mother Virginia, whom we thank for the inspiration, is a symbol of the silent bells in Europe. Page Fh e ST. AGNES ACADEMY, ALLIANCE, NEBRASKA
