IUZEIITIIUID To you, Pope Pius XII, and to you, Monsignor Peter Quealy, we dedicate the 1955 Lamb. As our Great White Knight We find encouragement in your endeavors for peace in the world, peace in the nation, peace in the family and peace in oneself. Your motto, The work of 'justice is Peace, will ever inspire us, for in these difficult times we look to you for help and guidance. We also dedicate our yearbook to you Monsignor Peter Quealy, our Knight in Red, for a very special reason. The culmination of fifty years of faithful service to St. Agnes, in which thirty years were spent as Monsignor, cannot easily be forgotten. You have established the grammar school and high school to teach youth the fundamental principles of Catholicity. You have built St Agnes into one of the finest parishes, on Long Island and your service to your parishoners cannot be measured by mere words. ...bile 1714! For him it represents his particular goal and quest in life, the years ahead of him. More important, it symbolizes the ultimate goal of every young Catho- lic man and woman, that of eternal salvation. For these reasons we have chosen the Grail as the theme of the 1955 Lamb. In having the Grail as the theme, we will adopt also the atmosphere of the time during which the Grail was searched for, the century of knights and ladies. YVe are eventually building up to the Grail of every high school student, graduation. In our quest forathe Grail, we turn to our Blessed Lady, the Mediatrix between us and her Divine Son, for aid. YVe don the armor of Christian faith to protect ourselves against our enemies: the world, the flesh, and the devil. lVe aim to wield the sword of truth against them in order that we may some day don the helmet of eternal salvation. Through prayer and sac- rifice we hope that we may bear the banner of our Faith in order that we may better know, love and serve Christ, our King. iffzfylfs anfdfaakx af Xie Qzzesf 1 Q ei. , Christina Josephine Bila 402 Carlisle Court Rockville Centre, N. Our attempts were small and rather wide of the mark. Everything was new and different, the oratory, the library, the cafeteria. Studying biology and algebra was new and confusing to us. We also learned new approaches to English and social studies. YVe had new worries, such as gym suits, and health notes which seemed to evade our eyes. Library science and religion, although last mentioned, were not least in our new curriculum. VVe trained our minds and bodies in order that we might be able to pass the rigid tests that would make us knights. We learned to serve our masters and to develop a responsibility to our- selves and our superiors. just as the pages looked forward to the second class of knighthood, the squire, so too we looked forward to becoming sophomores. , 'w Front Row: George Kromer, James Smith, Patricia Roach, Marjorii? We learned and loved the Bible and were taught a new approach to American history. In English we wrote and evaluated term papers, toured Spain and,France and studied their cul- ture and manner of living through their literature. Physics broadened our interests and taught us to reason things more easily. We visited Cicero vicariously and dreamed of a visit to ancient Rome. We began to take over gym classes and started our study of health. We also became music and art enthusiasts. Equestrians at last! Successfully we met the opposition and vanquished the foe thus arriving safely at the third degree in our expedition as upperclassmen. Upperclassmen, we loved the word, and endeavored to give aid and good example to those who followed, that we might merit a glimpse of our quest. It would appear more closely as time advanced. As the knights! of our quest We earnestly strove to attain our goal, so much desired, so eagerly looked forward to, the grail, graduation. We followed the paths of the worldis greatest knights, upholding our code of brotherly love and determination. We could be as Bors, the true hero of the Knights of the Round Table. Each of us could be the knight who did the king's work without an oath putting down brigands and protecting childrenf' Just as we so often are, he too was disappointed in the role he played, but he found what had eluded others. The monthly confessions in preparation for First Friday and Saturday, the continuous rosary said in the oratory, the admonitions of our principal, Mother Bernadette de Lourdes, and our official teachers have been continual channels of grace enriching our spir- itual lives. At the close of this our Senior Year at St. Agnes, we wish to thank all those who have helped us invaluably in preparing and producing The Lamb 1955. In order to have a good book, good pictures are a prerequisite. Our friends at the Sagendorf Studios, especially Mrs. Sagendorf and Mr. Mulholland, spent many hours helping us with our portraits, informal and class pictures. The New City Printing Company has aided and supported us in the print- ing of the book, assisting us in planning layouts, picking type and other detail work. Without Mr. Ball and Mr. Adomilli we never would have finshed so much work in so little time. But our greatest help came from our faculty adviser and moderator, Sister Rosaire, who has guided us in every phase of work, all year long. Mother Berna- dette, Sister Frances Loretta, Sister Marguerite, and Sister Frances de Chantal also have given us much of their time and energy. Last, but definitely not least, we thank our patrons. Without their generous contributions this book could never have been produced. They have enabled us to present our book with ease and confidence. Therefore, to all who helped us so much, we, the Seniors say a hearty Thank You and a sincere Cod Bless You. Wm . ,r .- , f - f..- - H, . 5.
