CATHERINE OF SIENNA Model of Dominican Sitter: THE FACULTY-- 1 946 Every school year sees new faces not only among the students, but also among the faculty. Very often this has a leavening effect upon the wholeg at least, adjustments are made to suit the new school situations. The graduates of this scholastic year were fortunate in the fine staff of Dominican Sisters and special lay teachers they had. The debt of gratitude we owe them can never be repaid. The above picture represents the choice our Sisters have made of remaining hidden with Christ. Students will remember the Sisters through their gracious ways, kindly deeds and intellectual leadership. Thus as Emerson says: There are facer ro fluid with expreuion, Jo flurhed and rippled by the play of thought, that we can hardly flnd what the mere fealurer really are. When the dellciour beauty of linearnentf lore: in power, it ir becaure a more delicious beauty has appeared, that an interior and durable form har been difcloxedf' 8 MOTHER M. His brothers endeavored to entrap him into sin, but the attempt only ended in the triumph of his purity. Snatching from the hearth a burning brand, the Saint drove from his chamber the wretched creature whom they had there concealed. Then marking a cross upon the wall, he knelt down to pray, and forthwith, being rapt in ecstacy, an angel girded him with a cord, in token of the gift of perpetual chastity which God had given him. The pain caused by the girdle was so sharp that St. Thomas uttered a piercing cry, which brought his guards into the room. Hence originated the Confraternity of the Angelic Warfare for the preservation of the virtue of chastity. Students of St. Agnes are devoted to their patron, St. Thomas Aquinas and frequently consecrate their studies to God in the time-honored prayer: O glorious St. Thomas, Patron of Schools, obtain for us from God, a iirm faith, sincere charity, chastity and constant growth in true knowledge through Christ, Our Lord, Amen. 33 4A , np: 'GQ' Top Row--Mary Henry, Irene Franke, joan Fitzpatrick, Blanche Ford, Claire Howard, Therese X 6 Feeney, Joan Mattes. MISS ANN BELLINI In addition to being our French teacher, Miss Bel- lini is a dramatic coach of the first order. We could never repay her for her loyalty and generosity. It was her encouragement that was greatly responsible for the success of the school operettas. Our good will and prayers will always be with her. MISS BEATRICE BELLON Our operettas would never have reached such a high degree of success without the gay and colorful dances. Miss Bellon was the guiding influence behind them. The members of the Dramatic Society and the student body wish to extend to Miss Bellon their heartfelt appreciation for the many services she has rendered them. MRS. DORIS BAILEY During het years at St. Agnes, Mrs Bailey succeeded in imbuing a musical spirit in the hearts of all St. Agnesites. Her untiring efforts in the operettas, the Glee Club and the music classes are suliicient to give her a cherished place in our memories, DRA MATICS CLUB OFFICERS SO Front: Ann Marie Busch, Patricia Maloney, Rita Hollweg. THE MISSIONS Go ye, therefore, teaching all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. With these words Jesus Christ gave the power to His disciples to spread His Kingdom throughout the earth. Centuries have passed and the work of jesus Christ and His disciples lives with us today as it did in the ancient city of Antioch. The charity of the early Church lives in the presence of the missionary work of the priests, sisters, and laymen who have devoted their lives to this worthy cause. Every St. Agnesite in his own way has contributed in some small measure to this great cause. The very least he does is to give the minimum ten cents a month for missionary purposes as fostered by the Propagation of the Faith Society. Thus the proceeds are for the benefit of the poor here in America, as well as all over the world. 52 1921119124 Q agamwbe Um yfbksfbfz Qaxs' 5512125 kv ,yffffle WWA! St. Joan of Arc's basketball court seemed like home to them after the many Sunday nights spent there. The girls were encouraged and rewarded by the acclaim of the loyal basketball fans, who also haunted St. joan's. Captain Arlene Bradley, and her equally pretty and energetic assistants, deserve our vote of thanks. 0-, az, ' i w f Y , ff' ffl I if I iw 'RWQ' u 5 in J R. In spite of the reduced manpower in St. Agnes our boys entered the Catholic High School League with true sportsmanship. Although they had no place in which to practice, they managed to show respectable form by winning seven of their games. This could not have been accomplished without the able coaching of Mr. Richard Gelke and his assistant, Charles Burkhardt, as well as the management of the team by Matthew Clarke and his assistant, Robert Boyle. February graduation depleted the ranks by taking Gerard Perrine, captain and joseph DeVito, co-captain. james Hicks, our small firecracker, received a scholar- ship to St. johns Prep and also left the team. Due to this loss of power we were unable to enter the Tourna- ment this year. However, the players who survived showed themselves very capable by winning three out of five games. The successful finish of this season gives us renewed hope for next year. MANAGERS Left: Robert Boyle Right: Matthew Clarke IN BABIS J 1 ' f A 2- ' I A I SW .QI f K , FULL TEAM I V al.'i'! Last spring the baseball fans of St. Agnes saw a rejuvenated team of youngsters bring honor to the school by winning the private schools championship of Queens. Coach Richard Gelke opened the season by placing a speedy, hard-hitting, agile team on the diamond. Catching their opposition off guard, the Aggiesl' registered impressive gains over Kew Forest, Delehanty, Garden Country High and the Alumni. Although the team en- countered defeat at the hands of Regis and Xavier, they fought hard and managed to finish the season in superb fashion. This coming year should be even better, since an almost all-veteran team will be eligible. The experienced players include the whole infield and outfield, as well as the pitcher, Don Derleth. Don proved to be the workhorse last year, having been called upon to pitch in almost every game. With the promise of another successful team this year, everyone is looking forward to see the Aggies on top. -EDWARD BAB1s, '-46. 62 ii LU LEO, BILL YEAGER AND MCCALL BILL YEAGER CHARLES MCCALL JOHN HETZLER ROBERT BOYLE POTTS BABIS YEAGER AND MCWHIRTER AND HENRY F RICKE WILLIAM STEINBRECHER -37' BABIS AND STEINBRECHER FRICKE, YEAGER AND HETZLER JOHN MCWHIRTER QELIGICJUE a L..
