Q I ,, Q l 'I An enthusiastic turnout of 1.5, ff,-f 44 baseball candidates who + 7 2f '? tried to make the team and .1 vied for coveted positions on the diamond, simmered down Q Q, to the lucky few who qualified best. 'Ex' The team, managed by Father 5 .Q Maliszewski and captained by J' '9 Chester Dodson, joinedthe Dio- 5 cesanCatholic Baseball League. In the two League engage- tg' -'V ments they've had, Albertonians ' lost one andwon one. At press- 5.3416 time the score stands: North Catholic 10, st. Adamert 0, 1 st. Adaibert 10, st. Michael 9. X-9 ig. 'jgvtlafl fx 13 feta filled the hopes and dreams of the past three years. After what seemed interminable practice, St. A's Girls' Var- sity opened the season with a bang, winning all of their pre- liminary games. In the League games, however, they did not make out so well. Nevertheless, their spirits were not hampered. They finished the season with a winning streak of six games in a row. 3a,.1.2'w f V Aa- Q we They have learned the value of true sportsmanship even though their successes have cost them long, hard hours of practice and cooperation on the part of each and every girl. In the weekly gym classes calisthenics, rhythmic games, relay races, folk and ath- letic dancing afford splendid opportunity for developing the mind, the character, and the structure and powers of the body. It was basketball, how- ever, that became the all ab- sorbing game of the students. It brought to the fore such mental and moral qualities as leadership, self-control, self- confidence, habits of obedience truthfulness, fair play, alert- ness, quickness of perception and of action. In recognition of the indeli- bletmark of spirit displayed by the Varsity, the team was a- warded Varsity letters at a banquet held to crown the teams' achievements. Father Maliszewski's en- thusiasm and satisfaction for the fighting spirit of the Al- bertonians have prompted him to present trophies to the boy and girl who excelled in both the scholastic and athletic field. f y Q wg fry -4' . --1 if-sim: ' , ., . .-W .. . ...Agri ' V- - ' 'nw ., -, '-f ifrrii'-.r9 4l '- fzralsltrljeii-Q fn' iiflwf- -- '.'1'5': 3?'f ' 2'-i'.-SA-V by . -. - - ,, A A r ..
