Rokosz, attempting herein to crystallize some record of the widespread tribute which his efforts in establishing St. Adal- bert High School have occasioned. The record is necessarily a partial one since the silent and spoken gratitude no printed page can chronicle. Yet it is only the written word that can be garnered here. We hope that it will in some measure indicate the breath and variety, the uncommon depth of esteem which Father Rokosz commands in his personal and priestly life. A T TY: A man of vision and a true friend and benefactor of youth, ii our beloved Pastor, Reverend L. Rokosz, has endeared himself to the students and won the gratitude of the seniors. While the mili- 'A , ' tary leaders of our country planned our battle for existence, our ' il dear Pastor with the hlep of his assistants struggled to safeguard 3' , the spiritual life of his youthful flock by giving them a Catholic ,7 UV , high school where the education of the soul is of paramount impor- xg V 'L tance. gg' 17:'1f'E ,ip 'I .S K , f Father Joseph Wichmanowski is the most loyal booster of St. 5 ff' M Adalbert High. Albertonians will long remember his lively wit and keen sense of humor coupled with his earnest efforts on their be- ,J-,ffl 1 'fl half. Father's athletic leadership is best exemplified in his in- spirational tactics with boys. From him they learn the silent les- sons, lf you can't play a sport, at least be a sport. i if .IM Behind each play and player was Father Edward Maliszewski, 'N' our athletic director. He believed that On the fields of friendly , .g i strife are sown the seeds which, in other years on other fields will 'W ,3 55 bear the fruits of victory. This belief led him to organize St. 5 Wf' Adalbert Basketball teams. The fruits of his labor are evident in it the development of a fine Varsity team. Sister Mary Augustine knew that she was headed for some interesting times when she took over the leads ership of thejunior class. They had reached the prepossessing heights of Third Year but the maturity that had eluded them for two blithe years did not suddenly catch hold. With such widely divergent personalities as Archie and Monica to contend with, she had to apply the wisdom of Solomon and the patience of Job. As an instructor Sister Mary Augustine was exacting, but every junior knew she put everything she had into teaching principles of re- ligion, history, typing, and short- hand. No one would call us a serious group. To typify us with one phrase would be difficult, but wherever a rollicking good time was to be had in or out of school, there we were. Edrnund, Victor, and Stanley found out that ahead and atypewriter can't occupy the same space at the same time. The dust on the picture frames recorded daily seismographic dis- turbances as Rose and Paul came through with their ,ready witticisms, or Leo and Gene exercised their slapstick talents. Sweet reminis- censes of our happy junior days will be those insignificant facts, those small incidents, comic or tragic, serious or childish which claim the right to an aching but pleasant nostalgia. After what seemed interminable practice, St. A's Girls' Var- sity opened the season with a bang, winning all of their pre- liminary games. In the League games, however, they did not make out so well. Nevertheless, their spirits were not hampered. They finished the season with a winning streak of six games in a row. 3a,.1.2'w f V Aa- Q we They have learned the value of true sportsmanship even though their successes have cost them long, hard hours of practice and cooperation on the part of each and every girl. In the weekly gym classes calisthenics, rhythmic games, relay races, folk and ath- letic dancing afford splendid opportunity for developing the mind, the character, and the structure and powers of the body. It was basketball, how- ever, that became the all ab- sorbing game of the students. It brought to the fore such mental and moral qualities as leadership, self-control, self- confidence, habits of obedience truthfulness, fair play, alert- ness, quickness of perception and of action. In recognition of the indeli- bletmark of spirit displayed by the Varsity, the team was a- warded Varsity letters at a banquet held to crown the teams' achievements. Father Maliszewski's en- thusiasm and satisfaction for the fighting spirit of the Al- bertonians have prompted him to present trophies to the boy and girl who excelled in both the scholastic and athletic field. f y Q wg fry -4' . --1 if-sim: ' , ., . .-W .. . ...Agri ' V- - ' 'nw ., -, '-f ifrrii'-.r9 4l '- fzralsltrljeii-Q fn' iiflwf- -- '.'1'5': 3?'f ' 2'-i'.-SA-V by . -. - - ,, A A r ..
