Class Prophecy DEAR SPURGEON HIGH: lt was a beautiful day in May 1965, I was sitting on my veranda of my mansion in darkest part of Africa overlooking the world famous Luff Diamond Mines. I was looking at my new jet passenger plane which I called the CARDINAL. I began thinking about the ftm I had in my old school days at Spurgeon High School. As I kept thinking about the school days I got lonesome for America and my classmates of '55, Idecided to give myself a vacation, destination, parts unknown. I had read my latest issue of the Madam Mozelle magazine and discovered that Betty Jo Skinner, now called Madam Beatea Josea, was the highest paid model, now modeling for Rachell Jewelers in New York City. When I arrived in New York I went to see Betty. She was so happy to see me she took the day off and we decided to dine at the Stork Club. As we entered the club we noticed a new singing star. We recognized the face but not the name. It proved to be none other than Augusta Coleman, now under the name of FiFi Donelle. After she finished her song, we paged her and she was so surprised she could hardly speak. We told her of our intentions of looking up the rest of our classmates and asked her if she would like to go with us. She said she would like to, if we would be back within two weeks, because it was her first opening at the Metropolitan Opera and we assured her that we would have her back in New York. She told me that John Rogers was the world's champion racer. She also told us he was to race in the Memorial Day races in Indianapolis. 'I'he next day being Memorial Day we decided to leave for Indianapolis so off we flew in my plane. The next morning we went to the race track, we saw that John was in racer No. 22. When the checkered flag waved to end the race, it' was John who had won again. After the race we knew that he would have time to talk to us between pictures. But before we reached him. an odd, but distinguished looking character, stepped in front of us and much to our surprise we saw that it was Kenney Todd another one of our beloved class- mates. Kenneth is now professor in English at Harvard. We spent the afternoon to- gether talking over old times and found that Peggy Julian was private secretary to the Governor of Indiana. Off we went to Peggy's apartment. After talking for a while we fotmd out that Leo Sermersheim was an undertaker in Las Vegas. So we bid Peggy, John, and Kenneth good-by and off we went to Las Vegas. ln Las Vegas, while walking down the street, who should we run into but none other than Donald Butler who is working as an under-cover agent for the F.B.I. We talked to Donald for a while and asked him if he knew where Leo could be located. He said that Leo was proprietor of Leo's Mortuary. When we arrived, Leo was surprised and here was another happy reunion. We asked him if he was married and he told us he was enjoying single life. Time was growing short, we asked him if he knew anything about James Meyer. He said that he had received a letter from James about a month ago and he was living in Paris, Texas. In a matter of minutes we headed straight for James's fabulous Texas Mansion and found that he had a large oil firm. We told him where all the rest of our classmates were and what they were doing. We happened to think that we were all single as yet, after being out of school ten years. Everyone made a joke of it, but decided that we had all had a lot of fun in our single days. But some of us would probably be married in the near future. Our two weeks time was getting short so we bid James good-bye and off we went in the big blue yonder in the CARDlNAL. When wereached New York we thought about the wonderful time we had, but discovered we were glad to be back in New York City. We hope to make the trip again in the near future. With tears in our eyes, we all left for our own seperate places hoping to see each other again. CLASS PROPHET OF '55 - - -Dosha Luff Rash '1- 5 fm 'Q' ll 7 I I A '? 'Q f 3 Dmk 8ul7eY fr.
