Mascot On October 7, 1976, Spruce Creekis first mascot, Hawk the Dog, was struck by an automobile and killed. Everyone was totally shocked by the sudden tragedy. We had lost a part of Spruce Creek that would always remain in the memories of those who knew Hawk. On December 18, Mr. Gold accepted a three-month old, part Ger- man Shepherd puppy to become the schoolis new mascot. His name was Dilbert, and soon became known as Dilbert Hawk. Dilbert Hawk came to Spruce Creek after Christmas vacation. His major problem was figuring out why he suddenly got so much attention. The janitor,s major problem was get- ting him housebroken. Through his growing up Dilbert Hawk has warmed the hearts of ever- yone at Spruce Creek.
