Under the direction of their new band director Mr. Richard Knight, the band attended three marching competitions which were Mid-South, Alabaster Marching Festival, and the Music Bowl. At Mid-South the band and Color Guard rated excellent and the drum major rated superior. The band reated superior in all three classifications at the Alabaster Marching Festival. They received an award for their performance in the Music Bowl. The band was under the student leadership of Drum Major Mike McLaughlin, Band Captain )oni Baker, Co-Captain Barbara Wright, Sec.- Treas. and Flag Captain Theresa Herring, and Rifle Captain Angela George. Barbara Wright—Vice Pres. 51 FUTURE HOMEMAKERS OF AMERICA The Future FHomemakers of America, one of the most active clubs in the school, has had a very busy year. To help raise money for FHA, mem- bers participated in selling mums during home- coming week. Christmas meant a party for the elementary special education class. The club honored National FHA Week by having several bake sales and giving the teachers a spe- cial day. Miss FHA and the newly elected officers were announced at the annual tea in May. The 1980 DAR award goes to Theresa Herring. Theresa is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Herring. She is President of the Beta Club, a member of FHA, and the Annual Staff. She is also a 7 year member of the Band and Color Guard Captain. She was recently selected Alternate St. Clair County Jr. Miss. OUTSTANDING SENIOR Each year the Junior Class elects a Senior who has shown qualities of good character. This year's Outstanding Senior is Norman Sanders. Norman is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Sanders. He is a member of the football and basketball team and won this year's J.B. Martin Award.
