(Ly uL' cy y r 'if I Foreword We, the Quill Staff of the 1965 - 66 school year, have tried to capture in these few pages some of the memories of this school year. Some are happy and perhaps some a little embarrassing, but will still be remembered from year to year. If in future years as you thumb through the 1966 yearbook and you recall some of these memories, the Staff will be happy and content with the many hours of work that we put into the Quill. The Porcupines turned oppor- lists in the third quarter len a blocked Viking boot gave ringtown the ball on the No- 1 six-yard line. Halfback Ter- Hampton crashed over from - one-yard stripe for the ichdown, and Terry Brad- aw ran the two-pointer that ailed the difference. SPRINGTOWN— Visiting Boyd Yellow Jackets buzzed loud and stung Springtown first in the opening moments of the game here Friday night, but the Por¬ cupines ruffled their quills and took over to dominate the re¬ mainder of the outing and mark the final tally at 30-7. This wound up Springtown’s District 1A-12 season. A Porcupine back fumbled the opening kick off and a Jack¬ et recovered it deep in Spring- town territory to set up the first score, only seconds deep in the initial frame. And an EP kick went between the up¬ rights to set the scoreboard a.t 7-0 as the game had barely begun. Stunned, the Porcupines got down to playing football and by mid-way of the second quarter Springtown’s hard running half back Terry Bradshaw scored the first TD for the Porkys. He ran his own conversion, to gain the lead, 8-7. With 16 seconds remaining in the second period, End John¬ ny Simmons took a pass from Quarterback Denny Harms and sprinted across the Boyd goal¬ line. Bradshaw then racked up another PAT run for two and the Porcupines were out in front 16-7, letting the moms and pops sitting along the side¬ lines— it was “Parents’ Night” —and other Springtown fans breathe a little easier. Again in the third quarter Bradshaw made a spectacular sidelines dash from deep in his own territory to the Jacket goal, but Mr. Official said he step¬ ped out on the Boyd 25 and the deal was called back. This set up another score, however, when Fullback Terry Walls scored on a line plunge a few plays later. Then in the final period End Larry Carsons took another pass from Towering Number Ten (QB Harms) for yet an¬ other Porky tally and after another 2-point con version, this wound up the scoring at 30-7. Defensive standouts for Springtown included Bradshaw, Center David Huddleston, back Johnny Marsh and End Mike Gilley. Porcupines impale Jr. Roos 26-0 SPRINGTOWN- The Porcu¬ pines of Springtown took prick¬ ly steps to pay dirt four times here Thursday night to impale the Weatherford Kangaroo Jr. Varsity aggregation, 26-0, in the ’Roo team’s initial game of the season. It was the Porcupines’ second season game, and they remain undefeated- Last Friday they downed Bridgeport in their first season gridfest. The Springtown bunch’s scor¬ ing began with a first quar¬ ter touchdown. And the Por¬ cupines racked up two TD’s in the second period and again in the third quarter. Only one Springtown extra points-run was successful in the game with the Roos able to stop three of four PAT attempts. Keller slips 14-6 win by Springtown Porkys SPRINGTOWN — Playing on what probably looked more like a field in foggy London town than a gridiron in Central Texas, the Springtown Porcupines dropped their homecoming- game 14-6 to the Keller Indians here Friday night as both hard¬ hitting teams slipped and slud ’ through the mist and mud. Fate also played a slippery trick on the home team as a blocked punt recovered by an alert Indian over the Porcu¬ pine goal line scored the games first TD and took some of the statch out of the Porcupines. Indian fullback Harvey Hanton ran the EP and the visitors notched eight points during the first quarter. Bouncing back. Porcupine end Larry Carson who looked as if he might have had fly-paper mittens sacked up a long pass over his shoulder from quar terback Denny Harms and stretched out to finish up the long pass- run combination to score for Springtown on the first play of the second frame. The point-after run try failed, however, and the Indians still had the edge by 8-6. Midway of the second period, Indian Fullback Harvey Hanton scored again on a plunge through the middle, after a hard- won drive into Porcupine territory. This time the PAT run attempt failed, and that ended the scor¬ ing in the ball game at 14-6. Both teams threatened with penetrations during the second half, but passing was held to a minimum by the wet, and the defenses for both teams tight¬ ened up each time their oppon¬ ents got down around the 20. O. Box 315 Floyd Ward Boyd, Texas If electric rates are lower, why is my bill higher ? ” The question is logical. The answer is simple. We’re all enjoying so many more comforts and conveniences which electricity helps make possible. Today ... in addition to things such as irons, toasters and refrigerators which we’ve taken for granted for years . . . just about every household has one or more electrical appliances which only a few people owned or which didn’t exist 20 years ago. Examples: air conditioners, television, clothes dryers and food freezers. Of course, as we add electrical servants to our home, we require more electric power to operate them. But, while the use of electricity has been going up, the price has been going down. The average per-unit price of electricity used in the homes of TP L customers is now only about one-half as much as it was 20 years ago. So, if your electric bill is higher than it used to be,” count the electrically- operated appliances in your home. We believe you’ll agree that electricity is still the biggest bargain in your family’s budget. TEXAS POWER LIGHT COMPANY a tax-paying, investor-owned electric utility Dean Music Co.
