The Service Club this year emphasized particularly the importance of giving of its own time and erlorts to worthy causes. Springsiders have helped at the Chestnut Hill Hospital, the Germantown Hospital and Y have participated in workcamps and the activities of the Germantown Schools Community Council. One special project included members of the junior class who worked at the Germantown Boys' Club. At Thanksgiving, the school brought in food for the All Saintls B Hospital and at Christmas toys were sent to the First Family Day Care Nursery. The annual Service Club Fair was held in March instead of in the fall and our budget for distributing the funds from this fair was planned by the entire committee. The Assembly Committee this year has attempted to maintain the high standard for assemblies. Our aim has always been to provide a variety ot interesting programs for the Thursday and lfriday assemblies, have early morning assemblies as smoothly run as possible, and encourage the presentation of such things as athletic rallies, activity skits, and other assemblies produced by the girls themselves. The proceeds of the play were larger than ever before, thanks to the publicity committee of Betsy Elkins and Nata Zvegintzov and to the support of the entire school. The profit of almost S2U1l.lIfl will be used for the long needed improvements to our stage lighting. Springside participated also in a play with Penn Charter School when we gave a joint production of G7'IIlIll'7'fj' Ghosi as the evening's entertainment at the Fund Raising Fair in March. As this goes to press, there is a tentative plan to replace the various sketches given on Fathers' Night with a production by the Dramatic Club or the Drama YVorkshop. VVe all hope that our audiences have had as much pleasure coming to these plays as we have had in producing and being in them. VVith memorable class projects such as Saint form, and assembly programs by the Drama VVorkshop, Springside had, as usual, an effective Dramatics program. The Chestnut Burr was issued in February and June. This year the board, consisting of permanent members from grades Seven through twelve, with Joan Rosenbaum as editor-in-chief, published the best work done by students in classes and by individuals on their own. History and Bible classes have presented to the school parts of the Bible which they have studied. During 'ilirotherhood YVeek, we tried to show contributions made by various races to our countryls literature, music, and science. In the fall, a Conference On Human Relations was held at the Baldwin School. The Junior Cvlee Club had a very successful season. After many tryouts, forty-five girls were chosen, including some of the Freshmen, who were really a great asset to the lower classes. YVe had one rehearsal every week and first performed in the Christmas program. The highlight of the year was a concert in March with Chestnut Hill Academy. VVe sang Bach's Cantata No. 71, Jesu Thou My VVearied Spiritf' and Bartokls Slovak Songs, accompanied by the combined orchestras. The Junior Glee Club, ably directed by Miss Stott, worked very hard and also had a great deal of fun singing. Next year it is hoped that the Junior Glee Club will have more concerts.
