SELF EUVEH ME T This year the Self Government board has felt the backing of the school and that a conscious responsibility has been accepted by each person. This feeling came from the fact that we started the year with orientation at a school meeting instead of in each homeroom. The seventh and eighth grades, through their student advisers, have gained better understanding of unity and school spirit. One of the policies of the board was to be alert to deal with problems immediately before they became serious. 'lihe Guidance Committee, which deals with serious problems of the school, feels that their meetings have been beneficial, since no girl has been brought up before the committee more than once. 'llhis year the Service Clubls Fund Raising Fair netted us 592356. YYe donated one third of this to the United Fund and divided the remainder among other charities. 'lihe board made a definite point of informing the school about the beneficiaries of our fund. 'Ilo do this we bad speakers from such organizations as the Negro College Fund and the VVorld Student Service Fund. YVe collected food and toys for charity, took part in a paper collection drive, and participated in Saturday and weekend workcamps and various other community projects. The Service Club has tried to broaden its field of interests and bas accomplished this through the Germantown School's Community Council. This growth has proved stimulating and we hope the interest will continue in the future. ' The Assembly Committee has tried to broaden the interests of the school by offering a variety of programs from outside the school in addition to our many class projects. Some of the highlights of these assemblies were: the visit of Canon Bryan Green, evangelical preacher from ltlnglandg a Greek speaker for the XVorld Student Service lfundg and a fashion show of clothes from Strawbridge and Clothier. YYe also enjoyed the programs that Episcopal and Germantown Friends brought us. In early morning assemblies we have had programs planned by the Bible Committee, reports from the board meetings, and records from current Broadway shows. This year's Alumnae projects, representing the work of all depart- ments in the school, were not only interesting but also contributed to our goal of one hundred per cent assembly participation by the students. .Yrlllhl on floor: S.
