SENIIOR TRJIP On October 13, 1954, the seniors and two sponsors left from good old P,M,H,S, by bus for Cincinnati, At Cincinnati we boarded a train that took us to Washington, D, C, , where we boarded a special bus for visits to the United States Supreme Court Building, Capitol, and the Bureau of Printing and Engraving. We ate our dinner at the Washington National Airport, That aftemoon we visited Arlington, Alexandria and Mount Vemon, We saw the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The seniors saw Mount Vemon, the home and burial place of America's first president, We had ample time to inspect the mansion and gardens, Returning, we stopped at the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, We went on the boat at 6:00 P,M, , from Baltimore, The next morning after breakfast we saw one of the greatest natural shipping harbors in the world, At 8:00 A,M, we arrived at Norfolk, Virginia, where we left our boat and boarded a special bus that took us across on the ferry, On the ferry we were allowed to go on the upper deck where we could stand and watch the water and the other boats, After westood on the deck for awhile, we went back into the bus. While we were waiting to get off the ferry, we could see the waves blowing high. That was our first glimpse of Hurricane Hazel, When we left the ferry, we made our way to the Mariner's Museum. Our tour to Jamestown had to be canceled be- cause of the hurricane. The next stop was to Williamsburg, where we ate our dinner at Williamsburg Lodge, After luncheon we had free time to spend in some of the stores, While we were shopping in the stores, the hurricane was really causing damage, breaking out windows and up-rooting trees, The storm was getting worse, We learned that we couldn't board our boat, That made all of us worried because all of our clothing and baggage were on the boat, We took the train to Richmond, Virginia, where the man in charge of our trip made arrangements for us to have our supper in a cafeteria. We were a sight when we went into the cafeteria. Some had their hair pinned up and our clothes were all wrinkled, WILLSHIRE INN HOLTHOUSE DRUG STORE Willshire Ohio Decatur, Indiana
