Driving into town a hot rod passed me that was really clippin' the grass, but a little farther down the road I saw that same hot-rod wrapped around a tree trunk. Miraculously no one was hurt and the driver, whom I discovered was Paul Dean Dyer, was walking around the wreckage scratching his head and muttering some- thing about finally being on his way back to California and this had to happen. Farther on down the road Frances Kealler rode into sight. She was riding across a huge oil field. I wonder if she and Fuzzy Watson settled on this place to rear their football team. Out in the edge of town 1 noticed a nice tourist court with a big hamburger stand out front. To my sur- prise Eddie Haydon was owner and operator of both. 1 didn't see Eddie around but one of the employees said he was very happy now that he had finally found a place where he could eat and sleep when he wanted to. I thought it would be nice to go out to the school and see who was still around. As I walked down the hall I saw Melvin Harris. He seems to be doing O. K. He must be the ag. teacher now. At least he has a mustache and it looked like Mr. Scott's old room he was in. That evening I thought I would go to the football game. I decided it would be too crowded for me to drive out to the stadium so I called a taxi. Glenna Rutherford always had everyone puzzled. You wouldn't have guessed it but she was driving the taxi that picked me up. We arrived at the game safely and while waiting for the game to start I saw Dale Landers. He was doing all right. He had a blonde on one arm and a brunette on the other. I didn't recognize the girls. They must have been from Muleshoe. He used to go with girls from there, didn't he? I was so busy looking around I forgot about the game. The next thing I knew everyone was saying What A Play . The hero was none other than our own Douglas Higgins. Professional! That was his life. The last time I heard of him, he was selling Ferguson Tractors. After the game I was thirsty so 1 stopped in at a drug store and who was working there but Sue Bozeman. She had gotten a college degree and came back to marry and help make the living. She also plays a saxo- phone in the local symphony orchestra. Sue told me that Elsie Estep made a secretary and married her boss . She also said that Bobbette Par-ish was playing in the band at the football game but I didn't get to see her. She said Bennie Sue Welch was the superintendent of the old folks home on the outskirts of town. She's still unmarried after all these years. Don't know what her pastime is now but once in a while you still see her car sitting on the street late at night. I thought it would be nice to have supper with her. As I left town to go get her I somehow got behind a school bus. Being a law abiding citizen when the bus stopped, I stopped. I wasn't thinking of anything in particular but I did see two of the cutest little redheaded boys jump off and head for a farm house which set back from the road. As I started up I noticed the name A. D. Wheat on the mail box. All at once it dawned on me that those were Dwain Wheat's initials. Wonder who he married? Susie wanted to eat at Club Swankey to renew old times. She told me about some of the kids. Joyce Rob- nett and Anne Wood are still together. Their marriages did not seem Jid work out. They just couldn't do without each other. She also said that Dwain Wheat married Lucille Jones. Can you imagine? There was a television set in the club and who do you think was on it? None other than Joyce Kittrell. Her laugh has made her millions. During our conversation she said Janabeth Laing was married now and devotes most of her time between activities of the Little Theater and caring for her small son who will someday attend A M just like his daddy. Her husband is the county agent. While eating our dinner Dolan Fennell came in with a very beautiful blonde on his arm. Dolan is one of the leading criminal lawyers in the city now and this woman it seems has just stabbed her husband to death. As he selected a table in a secluded corner his only thought was what defense he would use in her behalf. Could Business Law have led to this? After I saw Susie safely home and had retired to my room, my thoughts began running back over the hap- enings of my high school days. I began to wonder if there would ever be a chance for me.
