Your job is one of tremendous importance and you have fulfilled it exceedingly well. Your faith in us has made us want to do our jobs well. With continued co-operation from the community you shall exceed all past years in building a successful school. Only a few of the accomplishments credited to you are vast improvements in the grade school building interior; new, modern, furniture; teacher's chairs; sewer improvements, and many, many other projects to nu- erous to mention. ' BOSS OF THE WOLVERINE OUTFIT In the Springlake School system it is a desire of the faculty to give you more than the knowl- edge that you glean from books. We try to teach you to live together peacefully and happily. We hope that through our training you may meet the future as a good American citizen; with knowledge skills, strong mental attitudes, and emotional control. And also it is our aim to acquaint you with God and His laws. A fine spirit of co-operation was exemplified by the sponsor and by the members of the annual staff. The spirit of the advertisers in helping to make its production possible is greatly appreciated. It has provided a valuable means of training in the democratic way of life, through co-operation in planning and effort. If you students will apply yourselves to your daily task in life as you did in publishing this annual, I have no doubts as to your success Sincerely yours, Rubert W. An analysis of accident statistics shows that young drivers who have such training are involved in 60% fewer fatal accidents than those without it. Knowing this, and realizing the importance of providing this course of safety education, a number of the high schools of the nation are offering driver education courses to our youth. Dual control cars are assigned through American Automobile Association to high schools having a specially prepared instructor and conducting a course meeting certain minimum standards. Our dual control car used in driver training is being furnished through courtesy and gratitude of the Shepard Chevrolet of Plainview. The driver training course and car is under direction and supervision of the Super- intendent, Rubert W. Spann, a qualified instructor. It will provide the most favorable opportunity for students in this course to acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for safe driving. The Seniors haven't forgotten the lower classmen even though they aren't present at this banquet, we hereby will the Sophomore class who will be Juniors next year the privi- ledge of running the school if you have got nerve enough to try it and make the Seniors like it. THE INNER WILLY To the Freshmen, who will be Sophomores next year, we will you all the privileges of taking orders from the Juniors and Seniors and to the Eighth Graders who will be Fresh- men, we will you all the old chewing gum that is under the desk, please sterilize it before you chew it, some of us had the small pox. And last, but not least, we the Senior Class of 1952 will our wonderful sponsors, Mr. and Mrs. Fowler, to the class that will be the luckiest to get them next year. 1, ALEINE LOWERY, will nyy ability to work algebra to MR. FOWLER. The senior play was presented in the high school gym on January 3 1 and February 1. It was very successful and well received by the audience. The seniors enjoyed it very much although they had their little moments of distress. Remember Earl McNeill as Willy the spoiled little dar- ling of the old maids. Earl performed very well. He was faithful and humble. Remember Douglas Lewis as the inner spirit . He was visible only to Willy. Doug is always good on stage. We sure had fun telling Doug we had called off the play. He sure did have his say. He was in poor health all during the play because he never felt like doing actions. You couldn't possibly forget the old maids. They were excellently por- trayed by Bobbie, as Hester; Gene as Louise; and Janelle as Olga. Bobbie was the doting kind and tried her best to convince Willy that he should be a lawyer. But to no avail. She did a splendid job in convincing us she was an old maid. Gene was equally as convincing in her role of the I told-you-so aunt. Her sweet smile was an inspiration in re- hearsals. Janelle even used her voice as a device to convince us she was a charming old maid, and was very good. She was faithful and un- tiring. Stanley Clark was the tough guy. That was played by Larry. He was always there or at least somewhere in the vicinity. You might find him crossing spark plugs or hiding cars, but he was usually there. He played his part very forcefully. Mike was given to us in the form of Bud, who could always say his lines in more ways and still say the same things. He was very co-operative and nice to have around for laughs when the going got tough. Marybelle Turner was an ugly duck- ling in the play and Patsy did a good job in her part. She even had two teeth missing. Trudy Marshall was a twin to Janet. Trudy was played by Minnie Old Reliable Bolinger. She was so emotional that she became highly nervous. She did her best and we love her for it.. Janet was played by Dorothy Hargrove. She was the biggest flirt .you have ever seen. (In the play that is) She learned to really catch a fellow's eye. You did a good job, Dorothy. The play must have a real lover, and that was Bettye Williams as Carol Martin. Bettye kissed Earl as many times as five or six a day just for practice. She looked so sweet inher formal and practically reformed Willy single-handed, that is with the help of Inner Willy. Didn't Doug look cute in those long legged underwear ? All-in-all I believe we will long remember the play and the fun we had in rehearsals. Mrs. Fowler was always beating us up, but she was very sincere and we appreciate her now. She just could not see why a movie was more important than rehearsals, or why washing the car was important, or a broken leg, or pneumonia. Nothing short of death was more important than rehearsals. We all had fun and remember -- The re' s magic in the theater- And theater in magic -- JUNIOR FOOTBALL SQUAD BACK ROW: Left to Right: Coach Simmons, Jimmy Barrett, Bobby Scheller, Doyle Bills, G.R. Ready to go in the game any time. Anything is better than warming the bench. JIMMY HADAWAY A freshman that excels in the floor play and ball handling. Pretty Boy Hadaway. WENDELL TARPLEY A starting forward with speed and ac- curacy. Should be outstanding next year, since he is only a sophomore. I had nothing better to do so I decided to take a little trip to Hackett City. After packing a quick bag, I walked down to the Kick-A-Boo station and bought my tickets and boarded the train. Putting my bag away, I settled down to read the SPRINGLAKE CHRONICLE. As I read the paper my mind wondered and I found myself reminiscing. It had been ten years since I had graduated from the little country school house at Springlake. In that time, I had completely lost track of my old school chums. Oh, those were the good old days, I settled deeper into the seat to ponder over the old times. My mind began to reflect back, as a mirror and I seemed to think I was on a trip going from place to place just as a visit to see old school friends and recall old memories. At the time I felt almost like a globe trotter. Thefirst I see are Mr. Mrs. Fowler, our sponsors. Mr. Fowler is president of Deeper Learn- ing University in Maine. There are two new additions to the Fowler family which had then consisted of Mike and the Mr. Mrs. There is a little black-haired girl. Mica. And another little boy just the image of his handsome father. Mrs. Fowler is a gracious hostess and entertains the faculty royally. It was the year for the election of governors. I was scanning the ballot list and saw a familiar name. It was John Hall. I was just thrilled to death. I always knew that John would make some- thing great of himself. John and Darlene have been married for about three years now. I think she will be a lovely governor's wife. I saw Grady Lynn and he was doing fine. He married some girl from New York and is now head Quiz Master on the Quiz show there. This seems to fit him well. He was always the brain of the class. While down on the beach in Miami, Florida, I heard someone playing the song Cold, Cold Heart and it reminded me of Bud McNamara. Walking over to the place where the music was coming from, I saw a huge orchestra tuning up. Who should I see sitting at the piano but Bud? I talked to Bud for only a few minutes and found they played down on the beach most of the time. Bud was a little in the dumps that day because he was having trouble with his latest girl. I went to California and while I was there, I stopped in San Francisco for some time and ran into Louis Stockstill. Did he ever look sharp? I was somewhat startled when he asked me to dine with him in some out of this world place but being thrilled at the chance of seeing an old friend, I accepted. Again I was some what startled but happy when he picked me up and I found he had a beautiful, dark- haired girl when he picked me up that was to be the future Mrs. Stockstill. He had stocks in a large oil concern and owns a lot of land up in Wyoming. He is quite a rich man. Since I still had some time in San Franscisco, I decided to have my hair fixed. I noticed a sign which read Queen Minnie's Beauty Salon and I decided to stop there. To my great delight, there was my old friend, Minnie Lee Bolinger. Minnie Lee said she had been working hard. Taking care of a beauty shop and her childish seventy year old husband was just too big a job for one person. She was happy though. I decided to go to a movie one night and upon arriving, I heard a startlingly familiar laugh and voice. Turning around, I was face to face with Bettye Williams. Bettye had some handsome man with her who acted very possessive. Getting Bettye off in a corner, I asked her about herself. I found to my dismay that the man was her husband. No wonder he was acting that way. Bettye has been doing stenographic work for the Governor of California. Thinking I'd rest my tired feet, I sat down in a big park. I heard some one dragging their feet and moaning and groaning. Looking around, who should I see but Christene Myers. At the momeirt she didn't seem very happy to see me. After inquiring I found out why. She is the Fuller-Brush Saleswoman. She says people sure are cranky. Instead of making any sales that day, she had been doing all the buying and was very displeased. Christine's husband died and she's trying hard to make a living for her three and five year old sons. Someone just flew past me in a new Cadillac. After inquiring, I found that it was Larry Griffin. I have often thought of Larry and his cars. Larry is a car dealer now. Some how he can make the car run faster than the customer can after buying it. They tell me there is no particular woman in Larry's life. I always think things like that are odd. Wonder what happened to Joan? In Denver, Colorado, I walked by a bright lighted place where beautiful music was softly, drifting out. By looking through the window, I couldn't tell who the lady was that was doing the sing- ing. Making my way into the place, I was amazed to find it to be Janelle Ott. The sharp looking man directing the orchestra was none other than Charles Yoakum. After much contemplating and waiting around, Janelle and Charles had just announced their engagement. Wishing them much happiness, I went on my way. Being terribly thirsty, I went into a drug store to get something cold. Guess who was behind the counter? It was that Danny Becker. Danny has been at it so long that he can make most anything. He hasn't changed a bit. He hasn't married yet and is the typical bachelor. When we were seniors, he brought pieces of his own cooking to school. He just loved to cook. Going by a little country school house somewhere in the desert in Arizona, I decided to stop and visit for a little while. When going in the door, who should I meet but Patsy Randolph. Patsy told me she was teaching music and keeping house for her husband. She is the same old Patsy. Being tired of going from place to place, I decided, to get me a room in the hotel at Phoenix, Arizona. In the room next to mine was a newly married couple. I could hear them wooing each other with love. Knowing I couldn't sleep with such going on, I started down to the coffee shop and bumped into the couple as I walked out of the room. To my amazement, it was Dale Crawford and his new bride, Lois Wilson. Walking along with them, they told me they were on their honeymoon and headed back to Texas to make their home there and start farming. While I was still in Phoenix, I was startled to find Ray Joe Riley's name in the telephone directory. I looked Ray Joe up and found he is a famous lawyer and has a wife and two children. He married Earnistine Thornburg of White Deer. Ray Joe has his Bachelor's degree and his Master's degree from Mr. Fowler University. By this time I was almost in Texas. Was I thrilled! Walking by a garage in Clovis, I saw a large man standing just inside the door. It was none other than Harold Jordon. He is in partnership with some man there. He spent so much time at and around Clovis that he finally decided it would be worth while to move over there. He married a girl from Sudan by the name of Juanita. They have the cutest little curly haired boy. I went to lunch in a small casino and in the booth next to mine I heard a familiar voice. When the owner of the voice got up to leave, I saw it was Patsy McCord. Patsy is living somewhere around Olton. She broke Kiefer's heart the year we were seniors and married some guy called Sam Whit- tington. They have two young hoodlums now. I finally made it to Texas. I met three of the cutest characters in Amarillo. They were Ronald, Wylene and little Ronald, Jr. They were married shortly after Wylene finished high school. Wylene is quite a changed person. Ronald was always a little quiet and settled and after living around him all these years, whe has formed some of his habits. Ronald Jr. makes up for it though. He must have picked the wrong habits from both sides. I saw Dorothy Hargrove that same day in Amarillo. She and Richard Etter finally got married . Richard is still teaching Veteran's school and calls square dances on the side line. Dorothy is just like she used to be. Looks as young and spry as the day we finished high school. They have two little boys. I heard someone shouting out the window of a house. I started to walk on by then recognized the person to be Earl McNeill. He was telling some boys to get off his lawn. I only talked to him a minute. He seemed terribly grouchy. At a near-by grocery store I inquired about Earl. He has never married. It seems he is too cranky to get anyone to live with him. He wants everyone to Be- cause to him. Earl hit a iucky spot on a Quiz Program and is living off that small fortune. They say he is tight. I ran into another lovely young lady. It was my old school friend, Bobbie Cearley. She's just like all the rest of the girls. That's not her last name anymore. She's settled nicely into a beautiful, new, modern home in Dallas, Texas, with her last husband, and has the cutest little black-haired girl. Her present husband is husband number four. I almost forgot to tell you that I went through the insane asylum in Santa Fe. I had always wanted to do this. While going down a corridor, I heard a mumbling voice saying over and over again, Oh, How will I ever get out of this place? I looked into one of the cells and sprawling there in a chair was Doug Lewis, who the guide told me had worried himself insane trying to figure out a way to make a living without working. I met Private Hargrove on the street in Santa Fe just after my visit in the asylum. He was just coming through town. He was good-looking as usual. I was quite astonished when I learned what Private was doing. He has been in California learning jujitsu. Seems to be making some name for himself. Private is another one that seems to have been involved in a few love affairs. Aliene Lowery came to my mind all of a sudden. She came back to Springlake just before we graduated. She's still there but she's doing the teaching. Some great mathematics teacher. She's been married twice and is living alone now. Decided she'd stick to her arithmetic. You probably have all guessed who's mind is doing this wondering. Yes, it is Gene Winders, My train is just now pulling into Hackett City and it's time for me to get off. I'm sorry to say that I haven't been quite so lucky as some of my former classmates. The girls are ail married or have at one time. Me, I'm working as a car-hop for one of the drive-inns on Peek-A-Boo Island and am still in hot pursuit of a man.
