Goodin, Donald Sanderson, Bobby Murrell, Terry Green, Wayne Nelson, Maxie Scott, Melvin Lewis, Gary Bulls t The Spring Lake athletic and physical education department made unusual progress this year. With Coach Haley at the helm as athletic director, physical ed- ucation courses were offered in which physical fitness, health and hygiene were stressed. Our football team played for the first time on the new field under the lights. The largest crowds in the history of the school cheered the Wolverines on to a very successful season—a season in which the Wolve- rines romped to eight victories in ten starts. Six games were played against strong Class A schools. Our record was so impressive that we were invited to play next year in District 5-A and have scheduled some out- standing Class A schools on the local tvrf-Denver City and Littlefield, among the best. In basketball, too, the Wolverines came through with flying colors. They played nineteen games and won fourteen, including the District Tournament at Amherst. The Wolverines played in the Regional Tournament at Lubbock and advanced to the semifinals only to be de- feated by the strong Gruver team which later went nn to the state tournament as a strong contender for the state crown. The Wolverine track team held up the traditions set in other sports and won the District, consisting of seven other Class B schools. The track meet was held at Spring Lake field, and the locals won the meet, either winning or placing in every event of the day. Another hiehlivht of the year was a Boxing Tourna- ment held at the local gymnasium. Schools from all over this area were represented, bringing together some of the outstanding boxers of West Texes. The'local grade school won the grade school division including another trophy which was placed among our fast growing collec- tion. We are all looking forward to next year when we are expecting another successful year in Athletics. v V'WW ''Hii. ••'in,. ......................................................................................... ■%. %, ■%,.% v■% Hu. m r -tlL-C-fu Dent ' Guard ndy IBehrends E nd 7 lh on Uo lin BUorth Quarter JBacK. The Spring Lake Chorus started at the beginning of the Spring Semester. It is under the direction of Mrs. Betty Parish. The thirty-six members' voices have improved greatly, with hard work and traing, since the beginning of the club. Along with the work, there is also a little fun. Some social events have been planned and the big event of the year is the Spring Festival at Littlefield, and the chorus was asked to participate. 4 J i f f ? r 0 f r 0 r 0 f J nn Clayfon - G miVdl Queen 'Runne r U %r n C ay-f £ on 'Betty Joy Wabenen Bobby 'Pddon tleleen Le wis J0dn Wmdens Lois C le Ven 5 en ✓ 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 f 0 0 n_- fi 0 t ? r 5 I Ladi es re you cooking With gas ?
