MARIO PELLEGRINI director ADMINISTRATOR COUNSELOR TEACHER On March 12, 1969, Principal Mario Pellegrini passed away after a short illness. His untimely loss stunned our School and Com- munity. Mr. Pellegrini was a dedicated Vocational Educator who devoted his entire life to improving educational and vocational op- portunities for young men and women. He was a member of the Trade High School faculty for 19 years and our principal since 1967. As a leading educator, his devotion to his work broadened opportunities for the people he served. His many years of service will remain in our memory as a tribute to his efforts to impart knowledge, understanding, wisdom, and a voca- tion. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Mrs. Sylvia Pellegrini, and his two sons, Lawrence and Raymond and all of us who benefited from his “dedication” and “service.” MR. GIARD Sr. Class President PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE We, the class of 1969, have reached a crossroad in our lives; whereas, some of us will endeavor to further our education, others will venture to take their place in society, and face the many challenges that must be conquered. Regardless of whatever road each of us pursues, we at this time, wish to express our sincerest gratitude to the teachers, counselors, and administrators for their instruction, under- standing, and guidance in preparing us to meet our future obligations with diligence and confidence. We are indebted also to our parents for their patience, love, and the many sacrifices they have made so that we may be better citizens and, above all, a credit to ovr school, community, and country. To our successors, we assure them that our efforts in the years to come will be a living proof that the knowledge we have gained here at Trade High will open many doors to success, leadership, and ultimate happiness. In closing, the Class of 1969 takes this opportunity to thank and to bid farewell to all at Trade High who have assisted us in the achievement of our goals. Ronald P. We've learned quite a lot from the teachers we've known, From their ambition and influence they‘ve always shown. The boys’ goal most often was to reach the third floor, But they didn’t get far with the teachers by the door. The time now has come that we'll be out on our own, To face the world, with the trades we've all known. So-long to our teachers, and friends that we've met, So-long to the school, that we'll never forget. by Darlene DeCarlo Girl Marshal (‘69) 54 Class Song 1969 TUNE—Auld Lang Syne) Our parting time has come, Trade High, But memories will remain Of golden hours we spent with you, Our minds and hearts to train. (Chorus) Now we are leaving you, dear Trade And never shall return, For happy days we spent with you Our hearts will ever yearn. Our teachers who have labored long We never shall forget, For they have led us toward our goal And helped our course to set. To friends and classmates one and all We bid a last adieu, And to our school dear old Trade High, May all of us be true. CLASS HISTORY 1966-1967 In September of 1966, we entered Springfield Trade High School for the first time with the desire to succeed as Beavers. Within a few weeks we had adjusted to our new classes and teachers. We began to feel like a part of Trade High as we energetically participated in many school activities. Our sophomore year went by fast. Mr. Halls helped to organize our class and the year ended with elections for our Junior Class Officers. Those elected were: President: Ronald Giard Vice President: Michele Maggipinto Secretary: Marielle de la Bruere Treasurer: Daniel Nawoj Boy Marshal: Ralph Royland Girl Marshal: Darlene De Carlo 1967-1968 The following September we were eager to return with the thought of being Juniors and only one year away from elevation to the Senior class. It wasn’t long before the Senior class hats were sold and we wore them proudly. We ordered our rings and waited anxiously for them to come. We made early arrangements with Bosworth Studio to have our pictures taken for the yearbook. In late September, Field Day was held with teams representing the Juniors and Seniors competing in many events. We left the field with a smile even though victory was not ours completely, because both boys and girls teams fought hard to defeat the Seniors. Our advisors held meetings often and plans were made for a dance at the Shine Inn. Unfortunately these plans were not carried out, but nevertheless we kept our hopes high and looked forward to reaching other goals. On November 26, 1967 we received our rings after a long wait of two months. We took great pride in wearing them. In May of 68, we attended the Senior-Junior Class Picnic at High Meadows. We all had a wonderful time. The food was delicious and plentiful. It was a memorable occasion. On May 16, 1968 we sat together as a class during Senior Class Day assembly. The official Trade High Shield was handed down by the officers of the outgoing class to the officers of the Junior class as a symbol of their elevation to the rank of Seniors. This made us realize on that day that we had taken on new responsibilities as the Senior class for the year 1969. Once again we elected new officers to lead our class. They were: President: Ronald Giard Vice President: Michele Maggipinto Secretary: Marielle de la Bruere Treasurer: David Jacques Boy Marshal: Marc Brookens Girl Marshal: Darlene De Carlo On May 29, 1968, we arranged for a Junior Prom which turned out to be a great success. Everyone looked elegant, the girls in the beautiful gowns and fancy hair arrangements, the boys in their tuxedos. Our prom was held in the ballroom of Sheraton Motor Inn. The food, the music, and our escorts all combined to make our evening a very enjoyable occasion for every one. The last few days of June passed very quickly and we ended the year with happy memories of our associations at Trade High School. Most of us had plans for working throughout the summer in preparation for our return to classrooms and shops and a busy Senior year. 1968-1969 It didn’t seem possible that the time had come for our Senior Prom. Our big night was held at Shaker Farms Ballroom, April 17, 1969. Thanks to the help of our prom committee, the ballroom was beautifully decorated. Our theme song was “To Sir With Love.’” We danced all night to the music of the “Interludes’’ and loved every minute of it. The food was excellent. Most of us went out again after leaving Shaker Farm. The evening just didn’t seem long enough. May 8, 1969, was a beautiful day for our class picnic. It was held at High Meadows. Our Junior class picnic was an exciting day to remember, but our senior picnic turned out much better. Dancing and every sport you can think of was played, again we had plenty of food available for those with good appetites through our long day. Class Day, May 15, 1969, finally arrived. We walked down the auditorium in cap and gown. This was the last time we would walk down the aisle at Trade together as a Senior Class. This was a very memorable day and would not be soon forgotten. June 11, 1969, our graduating ceremonies were held in Municipal Auditorium on Wednesday evening. Proudly in caps and gowns we marched behind our class marshalls, Darlene DeCarlo and Marc Brookens, to take our places in the front rows of the auditorium surrounded by our parents and friends. At this moment we realized we were ready with our own particular skills to become a part of the technically trained wage-earners in our community. From now on we would be financially independent and contributing members of our society. Thanks to the excellent preparation we received at Trade High School we knew we could enter this new world with confidence and anticipation. 55 56 SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Row | Row 2 Vice-President: Michelle Maggipinto President: Ronald Giard Girl Marshal: Darlene DeCarlo Treasurer: David Jacques Secretary: Marielle de la Bruere Boy Marshal: Marc Brookens THE CITY LIBRARY SPRINGFIELD, MASS. It is taking place in the newly built Trade High School. By now the people were convinced that Trade High School was the best school in the city of Springfield, and the state of Massachusetts. The reunion is taking place in the beautiful new gymnasium, which is twice the size of the old gym. There are about 200 students of the class of ‘'69 ' expected here. Mr. Kosier and Mrs. Triggs were in the receiving line, although both are retired; they are both as bouncy and peppy as ever. Along side of Mr. Kosier and Mrs. Triggs, were Mrs. Mattson, and Mr. Halls, whose hair turned completely white shortly after we graduated in 1969. Standing by as usual, were Miss Mezzacappa who had retired two years ago and is now a travel bug with Mrs. Sullivan, a soft spoken teacher of Trade High School. Mr. Stanton was also in the receiving line; he is now the Principal of Trade High School. It was seven o'clock and the seniors would soon be arriving. From our class, many important people emerged—like Michele Maggipinto, who be- came the first lady President of the United States. She was always active in school politics. Ceil Maratea who was the 12-78 class athlete, who was elected to head the President's Committee for Physical Fitness. People like Darlene DeCarlo, Connie Canuel, Marielle de la Bruere, who were great in hairstyling, who became three of the top hair designers of the century. Anita Casavant was a genius, helped put the first man on Mars and is now working on putting one on the planet Venus. We also had two stars who emerged from our class, Louise Brodeur, who became well known as Rhythm Legs'', for she became quite a dancer. Marie Curto, class flirt, who became well known in motion pictures. There were a couple of girls in our class that said they would never get married, like Sandy Bartozek and Marthe Lehouillier. | had to laugh when | found out they both married and had eight kids and farm houses out in the sticks. Marie Bellame, Janet Berube, Kathy Powers, and Ginette Remillard, who had gotten their diamonds when we were still in school, now had beautiful children and nice homes. Margaret Barden along with Rosemary Baxter had married while in school; both are still very happily married. Linda Mariani finally found her guy who was a well known mil- lionaire; she now has six children—she always wanted a large family. Kathy Frain could not make the reunion, for she had left for Europe with her husband that day. While she was on her way to Europe, Regina Szulc and Marianne Patruski had just managed to attend the reunion, for they had just arrived from a European cruise. They never did get married with all their boyfriend problems. Colette Salois and her husband are on a second honeymoon in Canada where they met. Chris Smith was at home, sick because she's expecting twins, while Judy Ward is in the hospital having triplets. As | looked around again | saw Terri Cuzzone, flash news reporter for New Mexico's favorite dance spot, standing by Pauline Aube, who is now performing in New Mexico her new dance routine, ‘‘Put It All Onl''. Also speaking to them was Ellen Cabey, who is president of the Now Genera- tion blow her mind while listening to the Star Spangled Banner. | turned around and spotted Joanne Veciliavellie who had previously announced she had since grown one inch. Sharon McCarthy the movies new sex goddess is in town for the promotion of her new movie ‘‘Long Live Sex.'' Talking about movies Brenda Smith singing star of radio and television has been signed to make a movie on ‘‘How Thin | am'' a new hit release. Diane Willis, big hit radio disc jockey for Chicago just announced she is going to become a teacher of soul. | saw Tina Mancuso, the little ‘‘dough girl'' of Bakery, finally became a cake decorator.
