Class History FRESHMAN YEAR In September, 1957, just four short years ago, many of the members of the graduat- ing class of 1961 degan their freshman year at Springfield Trade High School. As yet we had no class advisors and, there- fore, we didn't elect any class officers. Sud- denly June was upon us, and we were amazed at how quickly our first year had passed. SOPHOMORE YEAR With September, 1958, came the promise of class organization. Our newly appointed class advisors, Miss O'Neil and Mr. Ross helped us to conduct our first election in which we elected Charles Belden, President; Annette Vachon, Vice-President; An nette Provost, Secretary; Claude Talbot, Treasurer; Janei James, Girl Marshal, and Robert Tes- sier, Boy Marshal. On March 13, 1959, we held our first dance. The Shamrock Hop, which was a huge success. JUNIOR YEAR Returning from a pleasant summer vaca- tion to our junior year, we noticed that we were to witness many memorable events. Knowing this, we immediately set about the task of electing our junior class officers which were: Charles Belden, President; Al- berta Pepin, Vice-President; Annette Pro- vost, Secretary; Caro] Mo: 2r, Treasurer; Bar- baa Phelps, Girl Marshal; and Albert Cnar- ron, Boy Marshal. In December, closed circuit television was introduced to our school, and that spring the addition of the new mechanics section 11 was added. On May 13, 1960, we heid the Beaver Hop, and on the seventeenth of that month, we held the election of our senior class officers. SENIOR YEAR On September 6 we returned as seniors for our last year at Trade High. Our class officers were: Joseph Testori, President; Al- berta Pepin, Vice-President; Patricia Sup- czak, Secretary; Carol Moyer, Treasurer; Bar- bara Phelps, Girl Marshal; and Thomas Walsh, Boy Marshal. In October, 1960, a straw vote was held in our school for the Presidency of the United States. We then sponsored the Har- vest Hop in November. In February, the school welcomed The Freedom Shrine, saw the marriage of one of our classmates, Doris Moyer to Lester Brooks, and the suc- cess of our Sweetheart Hop. We held our Senior meeting the last of March and at that time Maurice Disley replaced Thomas Walsh as Boy Marshal. In April we reached the high points of our senior year; our Prom and Banquet held April 13, Class Day held April 21, and our Senior Class Luncheon held in the Trade High Tea Room on April 25 and 26. June 14 will always be remembered by every member of the graduating class of '61. As we walk down the center aisle of the Springfield Municipal Auditorium, mem- ories of those who have helped us, worked with us and saw us through to that day will linger in our minds. Class Ww ill State of Massachusetts Hampden County Town of Springfield Trade High School We, the class of 1961, realizing that our four years at Trade high school are nearly finished, do declare and publish our last Will and Testament. Being of sound mind and body we generously leave the follow- ing items: First, to our parents, our everlasting love, gratitude, and devotion. Second, to Mr. Garvey, our principal, our respect and appreciation for his guidance during these past four years. Third, to Mrs. Thompson and Mr. Brunton, our assistant principals, our appreciation for their unselfish and wise leadership. Fourth, to Miss O'Neil and Mr. Ross, our class advisors, our admiration and respect for their kind understanding guidance. Fifth, to the faculty, our sincere admira- ion and gratitude for having labored so duteously to try to make us, not only good students, but also good citizens. Sixth, to the Junior Class, our position of leadership at Trade High, with the hope that they will fill this role with dignity next year. Seventh, to the Sophomores, our scholas- tic, and all-around ability. Eighth, to the freshmen, our hopes and wishes that they, four years from now, will be in our shoes. The following items may seem trivial, but we hope that they will bring to mind fond memories of the Class of ‘61! Joseph Testori wills to Steve Ziemian one pair of worn shoes and one pencil and some yellow lined paper for notes, along with a book of excuses to get around lead- ing questions to Brian Daniels. Albera Harriet Pepin wills to all future girls of the Architectural Drafting Depart- ment the fortune of being the one and only girl in a classroom of 21 boys. Patricia Supezak wills her ability to flirt with almost any boy in Trade High to some- one who has the time because she didn't. Carol Moyer wills to anyone, her job of cashiering in the lunch room. That is, if she can stand the nonsense of putting up with some of those boys. Barbara Phelps wills Arthur Debour the ticket from the Sweetheart Hop. Maurice Disely just leaves. Richard Zwinski wills all his Honor So- ciety, Student Council, Steering Committee and Year Book passes to whomever wants them. Philip Clough leaves the Presidency of the Honor Society open to any boy or girl that can put up with Mr. Fitzgibbons’ jokes. Warren John Mathison, being out of mind and a physical wreck does hereby leave all his theoretical and mathematical computations concerning the theories of Darwin and Freud, to the most able young man, another scholar cf Trade High, Jean Demers, of the Architectural Drafting De- partment. Charles Belden lezives. David Plante wills to Nick Colagionanni all his excuses for getting out of classes and shop. Regina Isham wills her best suit to any- one in her shop that thinks he can wear it. Richard Moskal wills his gym suit (that he hasn't used in three years) to any fresh- man who wants it. Nancy Ayers and Harry Griswold will the next couple who dares to hold hands in front of Mr. Kehoe all the luck in the world. Bob Methot leaves his first lunch and cof- fee break secrets to Mr. Prew. Janet James leaves to Gale Plummer her 13
