BACK ROW: Rick otkin, Dave Gentry, John Storm, Dennis Jones, and Keith Payne. Qnto Honor ociet On May 1, 1968, 30 seniors and 10 juniors were inducted into the National Honor Society. Mr. Robert Rolfes and and Miss Dorothy Drautwater were made honorary members of the South High chap- ter. This was the first year in which juniors became a part of the Honor Society. It was also the first. time a reception followed the ceremony. lniliates and their parents, and teachers were invited to attend the re- ception, which was held in the library. All seniors had to have a 3.0 grade average for all three years while the juniors had to have a 3.5 grade average for their sophomore and junior years. Both groups had to eiccel in leadership service, and char- acter. The last three qualities are estimated in a highly detailed report for each candidate by his subject and homeroom teachers, club sponsors, and counselors for all three years of high school. On the appointed morning, several soph- omores answered the trumpet call to tap those seniors and juniors selectedg at the same time parents received an invitation by mail to attend the initiation. Shoes and hose accent the styles of '68 Vicki Botkin doesn't seem to be distracted by the fact that Mike Whipp's hair is longer than hers. The fashion word for 1968 is bold and even fashions for men have taken a turn toward the bright and colorful. For girls the mini skirts are still in, but they are being challenged by the new midi dresses, which are about three inches below the knee. 1968 even brings a change in the kind of games that we play. This year quiet parlor games, such as Monopoly, are out. Twister, Grab-a-Loop, and Tight Squeeze are only a few of the active games which have taken over the party scene. Fads for '68 add up l fun and excite- ment, and it's a groove! ize their mod watches. the popular Afro haircuts.
