Red Shoesw Presented As 1963 Childrenis Play Red Shoesf' presented by Thespians on ,lanuary 19 and 20, was a play that pleased children of any age. It was sensitive comedy built around an age-old folk tale, telling how a young girl was forced to dance by an evil gypsy. Karen, an orphan who works for Frau .lorenson and her husband, is put under a magical spell by Snogg and his clown ,lemmo and forced to dance in order to make Snogg a rich man. Snogg and Jemmo kidnap Karen for their evil purpose but are caught by Nels and the Burgomaster. In the end Karen is freed from the spell of the shoes, and they are burned, no more to bring evil to anyone. ..,. Numerous talents were displayed by many of the students. Soloists included Leroi Sutton singing 'Scarlet Ribbons, Lynn Jackson singing the theme from Valley of the Dolls, and Lothar Bergeest singing wllhe Impossible Dreaml' and c'Softly As I Leave Youfi The Luvons, the Backyard Minority, and the Rivieras were three groups that added to the evening of entertainment and enjoy- ment. A folk group made up of senior girls sang 'cToday and 'isomewherefl The finale, consisting of the boys, and girls' ensembles and all of the performers, sang A Big Wide Wonderful World. Waiting to begin her second number, Barb Green pauses as the audience finishes their aplause. Variety Show Brings Entertainment to outh The Lovettes, composed of Leah Jackson, Rosemary Hunter, Jackie Liggins, and Gwendolyn Stokes, sang the selections Sweet Inspira- tion and Give a Little Love in the Variety Show. fb 'bf ,ant 4
