The Cornhusker's Party displays the kind of spirit that helped them win the election. South High's seniors participated in Stu- dent Government Day on April 4. During the weeks before Student Government Day, the candidates were chosen by the coun- selors, and parties were formed to promote the candidates. The proceedings went- as usual this year. The only unusual thing about this year's election was the enthusiasm of the students involved. The election assembly was one of the most lively that South has ever had. The Cornhusker's Party defeated the Inde- pendent Indians in the election. The win- ning party then appointed students to fill the many city posts for a day. tudents Are Enthusiastic City Clerk Willna Stewart shows Nola Wallace, who was the student city clerk, some of the details of her job. An example of this is the satisfaction that they have knowing that they are serving' their school, but there is also the reward of a special assembly to recognize those students who have given their time. During this assembly each student receives a certificate commending his efforts in the service of his school. Those students who have given more than one thousand hours.of service to South are individually recognized and receive a pin. This year the number of students who contributed over one thousand hours was unusually high. Students may obtain Star and Chevron points by doing almost any service for which the student does not receive a grade. Students are awarded Star and Chevron points by the teacher in charge of the activity. nan-Li, Beth Reynard takes time to replace returned books to the shelves. 97
