The highlight of the season was our victory over Ketteing Alter in our 3rd game. The knights, a perennial power in Ohio Basketball, were defeated by the panthers after successive wins over Greenon and Dayton Meadowdale. The team shot 58.5% from the field in the opener against Greenon. A second highlight was a victory over Wayne team which was fighting for the WOL lead at the time we played. Derrick Buford became the 1 st player in North ' s history to letter all 4 years. Derrick is 3rd on the career scoring list with 1056 points. He is also 3rd In Career Rebounds with 708. In the Meadowdale game North scored 56 second half points to rank 3rd in the history of North in points scored in one half. Steve Victoria was the leading scorer with 353 points and led the team in Field Goal Percentage (54.5%). Neil Stewart was the leader in assists. Steve Victoria, Derrick Buford and Rob Colvin formed one of the strongest re- bounding trios in the history of North. Reggie loyner led the team in Free Throw accuracy followed closely by Nei l Stewart. With the advent of the 3 point shot in high school basketball Ahmad Islam led the team in that category. Against Fairborborn Derrick Buford tied a school record by making 9 consecutive free throws. Derrick Buford and Steve Victoria were named to the All-County team. Derrick played in the District 9 All-Star Game and led his team in scoring. Steve made the All-Area Team (picked by the News-Sun), 1st Team District 9 and the Dayton Daily News All-Area Team. Both Derrick and Steve were d Players of the Week by the Springfield News. Another first for the 87-88 season was the presence of Rune Pederson, an exchange student from Norway. Rune made a very important contribution to our squad as did all the team members. Hakim Islam asks for 5 more seconds. Buford volunteers to get the ball.

John Kuss, Andy Long. Larry Ray, Hakim Islam This past season was the best : we ' ve had at rSorth High school. It was made possible by the excellent coach- ing staff we had. Coach Mark Stoll and brother Doug put in an enormous amount of time in order for us to per- fect our skills. They helped us each day and taught us to win ahd have fun. We finished the season with 15 wins. We played well together and went through some bad days together. Most of the games. We learned to shake off the losses and to start each game fresh. The Morth Baseball Program has changed dramatically during my four years tenure. The first year we got trashed several times. Through hard work and dedication by both players and the coaches Morth Baseball is once again greatly respected. It wasn ' t easy but our hard work paid off. I ' ll never forget the 1988 Panther team. We had several different types of personalities but we blended together on the field and worked excellent to- gether. The Softball team at Morth High had a much improved season in 1988. Their re- cord was raised to 6 wins 10 losses, with 4 of the wins in the tough Western Ohio League. The team had much talent this year and expects to return all but 4 seniors next year. This season ' s MVP was Shelly Leonard and The Captain was named Rae Ridder, both juniors.
