North ' s Symphonic Choir performs in the splendor of the Netherland Hilton ' s scarlet and gold Hall of Mirrors. Choir Travels To Cincinnati Contemporary was the key- note of the 1970-71 Sym- phonic Choir. At the Christ- mas concert, the group gave the premiere performance of Jan Bender ' s The Creation. The choir received national recognition in being chosen to present a concert of con- temporary music at the Na- tional Music Educators ' .con- vention. On March 11, after months of intensive practice, ninety-five nervous choir members traveled to Cincin- nati to entertain the conven- tion with a program ranging from religious numbers ac- companied by electronic tape to a selection from the modem opera Peter Grimes. Later in the spring, the choir received a superior rating at the District Choral Contest, which qualified them for the State competition. Other activities included participation in the County Choral Festival and in North ' s commencement exercises. As the choir and Mrs. Virginia Holl, their accompanist, watch ap- provingly, Mr. Baber addresses an audience composed of music ed- ucators from across the nation.

rr P-A-N-T-H-E-R-S, Let ' s Go! Dehydrating in the sun, re- hearsing in the 7 A.M. mist, cleaning spats, being thrown into the lake at band camp, and carousing fun were all part of the 1971 Panther Marching Band. Through a deluge of rain and a field of super-slick mud, the band placed first in Ohio and sec- ond overall in Zanesville ' s celebrated Bonanza of Bands. The season ended with the traditional Christmas Greens Sale, which more than doubled the previous years ' high sales and proved that the 1971 Panther Marching Band was indeed the best
