COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT Mr. Ryder, past president of the National County Superintendents' Associa- tion, is a member ot the Ohio Reading Circle Board, and an active participant in many other educational and civic organizations. Since 1940 he has been the Superintendent of Lucas County Schools. Durinq his ten years' experience he has shown thorouqh understandinq of school problems. They have done a wonderful job of determining the policies and expenditures of our buildings and everything that has to do with the operation of the school. During his eight years here, we have seen much progress, both in curriculum and equipment. Mr. Bishop has had Wide experience with the prob- lems of youth and takes an understanding interest in the physical, moral, and spiritual growth ot each individual. Moore has completed his eighth year at Holland as principal. He was born in Toledo, graduated from Ohio Wesleyan in 1925 with a BA. degree, and also graduated from Toledo University with a B.Ed. degree in 1938. Mr. Moore is loved and respected by all the students and will be long remembered by those who graduate under his fine supervision. A genial smile, a word of encouragement - yes, a necessary reprimand now and then - if make up our impression of an ideal principal. Earle T. progress Bemg em ployed by one of the local newspapers the Eppard Scandals I was requested to make a survey of the progress and actlvttres made by the Holland graduatmg class of 1950 Havrng heard that a number of our graduatlng class were ltvmg In Florlda I declded to make my f1rst v1s1t there Upon arrlval I reglstered at the Harold Wh1te Hotel where Norman Carter was the advertxslng manager After several hours of l1fe ln thrs excluslve hotel I dlscovered that others of my earher acquamtances had been tempted by the allur mg advertlsements and had taken up T951 dence rn the other apartments Into the wee hours of the mornmg laughter song and gay muslc drlfted from the penthouse where Bob Grlsdorf now rdolrzed by m1ll1ons of women for h1s croorung of songs royally entertamed hrs guests He exclusxve dress shop Agaxn on the street I was greeted by Ierry Sosbe the doorman whose broad shoulders and excellent bulld were strrkmgly apparent ID h1s grey and scarlet umform wrth gold buttons He halled a taxxcab for me and to my surprlse It was drrven by that excellent and careful dnver Nan Peebles We had not gone more than three blocks when we were brought to a halt by the shrlll blasts of a pollceman s wh1stle Instantly he appeared and who should rt be but Roy T1bb1ts who angrily mformed Nan that the speed l1m1t of 60 mlles an hour was enforced strlctly at the mam thoroughfare We A delicious ham dinner was enjoyed by all who were present. After din- ner Donna Nachtrab, Senior G.A.A. president, welcomed the boys. lim Iohnoft, Varsity H president, then gave a thank you response. Mr. Herslarid awarded letters to the foot- ball boys and Varsity H keys and charms to the Senior Varsity H members. Mr. McGee followed with a few witty but meaningful re- marks. Mrs. Hansen awarded trophies to the Senior cheerleaders and pins to the Senior G.A.A. girls. Mr. Bishop ended the banquet with a challenge to next year's football team. The Holland High School Blue Zippers have repeated again the difficult task of winning the Maumee Valley League Cham- pionship for the third consecu- tive year. They have extended their undefeated streak to 28 straight games. This record ex- tends over a three year period which began in 1947 under Coach Woody Bames. This string of victories was extended the next two years by an ambi- tious group of boys under the efficient coaching of Iohn Hers- land and Roger McGee.
