The Just Us Girls organization is a social club founded, primarily, for the purpose of creating stronger and more friendly bonds among the high school girls. Membership to the club is limited to the girls of the upper three classes. Each year since the club reorganized from the F.H.A. to the J .U.G. in the fall of '43, it has increased in membership. This year totaling well over 60. In October the club held its annual initiation party to install new mem- bers into the club. True to tradition, it consisted of an all day initiation ceremony, followed by a pot-luck dinner and a theater party after school hours. The club functioned this year under the supervision of our Home Eco- nomics teacher, Miss Lash: and following her resignation at the mid-year, Mrs. Arnold, assumed her duties as advisor of the club.

October October 11 Holland ..... 6 Clay ....... . . . The improvement of this year's football team over those of past years can be credited to the training by Coach Barnes and his assistants, Coach Crim and Coach Maxwell. Although the boys thought that Coach Crim made the calisthenics a little too rugged at times, they stuck with it. It was this conditioning and the new plays which Coach Barnes taught them that enabled the team to hold its own against heavier teams and to tie a championship team of the Class A League. Holland opened their season against Liberty Center with an evenly matched game, but Holland lost 2-0. Swanton was the next opponent and Holland won 12-6. Jack Bade made the first touchdown when he caught a pass and Ed Burgin went over for the second. In this game Don Kulwicki made a 65-yard kick which was the longest of the season. Ottawa Hill's 17-game winning streak was broken by Holland with a score of 8-0. Ed Burgin made this tally and Holland also caught Ottawa Hills behind the line for a safety. Wauseon was next on the list for Holland, and Holland added one more to their list of victims. The score was 12-7 with Ed Burgin going over for both touchdowns. Clay came to Holland this year expecting to carry home another victory against Holland. After the Hol- land boys had held Clay in their own territory for three quarters, Holland pushed Clay all the way back October 18 Holland ..... 0 Rossford ........ 13 October 25 Holland ..... 0 Sylvania ........ 19 November 1 Holland ..... 18 Montpelier ...... 28 November 8 Holland ..... 0 Whitmer ........ 33 for a touchdown. After having held a much heavier team for three quarters, Holland's strength ran out and Clay made a touchdown in the closing minutes of the game to tie the score at 6 points. Rossford came to Holland for the next game. Al- though the Holland boys tried hard, they could not get into the pay dirt. The field was wet and there was no holding Rossford. The final score was 13-0. When Holland Went to Burnham, the field was a mass of mud and water holes. They fought hard but couldn't stop the Burnham Eleven, and lost 19-0. Holland journeyed to Montpelier determined to win against an undefeated team. Our boys lost, but this was a very good game and not in the least what Montpelier expected. The boys rolled up 18 points against a heavier squad and held them to 28. The game with Whitmer ended the season and also high school football for six Senior members of the squad: Sam Scott, fullback, Don Kulwicki, quarter- backg Ray Augustyniak, left guardg Tom Kiger, right guardg Don Kaiser, right tackle, Russell Bannister, left tackle. The final score of this gamewas 33-0. Holland had a very good season after all things are taken into consideration. They played only two Class B schools and won both games. The remaining games of the season were all played against Class A schools. Of these games they won one and tied Clay who later became the Northwestern League Champions.
