Varsity H began as a social club for the bene- fit of boys who Won letters in sports. The original club was organized in the fall of 1941 and was active only until the close of basketball season that same school year. ln the fall of 1942 under the direction of Mr. B. I. Bishop and Mr. W. A. Fulghum, the Varsity reorganized, wrote its own constitution, and elected ofifcers. Membership has increased from the original eleven to twenty-two. At the time of reorganization, the purpose of the Varsity H was to supervise the wearing of letters, in order that only those who were eligible to wear letters might do so. At the annual Athletic Banquet, each Senior member is given a varsity key, emblematic of having won a varsity letter in sports and having been a part of the organization, and a silver replica of the ball used in the sport in which he earned his letter. All letter awards are made through the efforts of the Varsity H. At the first meeting this year the following officers were elected: loseph Iohnoff, President: Samuel Scott, Vice President: Lester Davidson, Secretary-Treasurer, Gene Gibson, Reporter, William Urban, Sergeant-at-Arms. After the football season in November, the club held its initiation party for Lester Davidson, George Kent, Ervin Kokocinski, Donald Kulwicki, Russell Bannister, Frank Gozdowski, Edward Burgin, Raymond Myers, and lack Bade. Varsity H has sponsored noon programs which consisted of dancing, quiz shows, wrestling, and movies every other week in con- junction with the G. A. A. Varsity H paid one half of the insurance fee of all athletes partici- pating in a group insurance policy. This was the first time that insurance has been carried for the benefit of the players. This year the Varsity H has voted to sponsor the William A. Fulghum trophy for the out- standing Senior in athletics and scholarship. The winner of this award will have his name en- graved on the trophy and will receive a key emblematic of this award. This trophy will always be on display in the trophy case.

Liberty Center 6 Swanton ..... 25 Ottawa Hills . 13 Wauseon .... 0 Clay ........ 35 The football team began its season on Septem- ber 14, by traveling to Liberty Center. Liberty Center was victorious by a score of 6 to 0. It closed the season. by playing Waite who was also victorious by the same score. Although the Blue Zippers have been victor- ious over only two opponents, Wauseon and Sylvania, the boys have shown great spirit in every game they played. The boys have played some very close games, like the one at Waite, 6 to U, and some that they lost by a great score like Montpelier, 46 to U, but the boys are to be complimented on their fine sportsmanship, both during this game and all the others. There were three major injuries and some minor ones this season. Gene Gibson was taken to the hospital for examination tor back injuries following the Swanton game. Don Dickerson re- ceived a broken leg while practicing, and Iohn Mosiniak received broken bones in his leg while playing in the Clay game. Don's and lohn's injuries were so severe that they were out of sports tor the rest of the season. With the graduating class the team will lose thirteen of its players: Ralph Szymanowski, Louis Noe, Karl Wohltarth, Ray Myers, Gene Gibson, Ervin Kokocinski, Robert Irwin, Lester Davidson, Harold Cramer, Robert Smith, Ioseph Iohnoff, Ray Smalley, Daniel Chinnis. But even with this loss, we are sure the boys will make a successful year of it.
