Board of Education B. I. Bishop, Supervisory H. E. Ryder, County Superintendent, Paul E. Cairl, Member, G. E. Swope, Clerk: George Griffin, President, Hugh MacOueen, Member, Arthur Cleland, Vice President. Serving as official representatives of the school district, the Board of Educa- tion consists of citizens elected to that office for a period of four years. The Board determines the school policies and is the governing body which legally acts on all matters and questions pertaining to the Springfield Local Schools. The Board of Education holds regular monthly meetings with the school executives attending in an advisory capacity. Upon this group, during the l945-46 school year, rested the responsibility of placing before the electorate the proposed bond issue providing for a new elementary school building program. This bond issue was successful, and the next task of the Board will be to provide the maximum amount of school build- ings possible with the money they have available. The Springfield Township Board of Education has faithfully discharged all of its duties. Each member of the Board has given freely and generously of his time and efforts in attempting to serve the patrons of our school district. At the time this annual was published, the Board was operating with four members due to the resignation of Mr. William E. Dyer.

B. I. Bishop, B.S., M.A. Supervisor Springfield Local Schools This year marks the completion of Mr. Bishop's fourth year as Supervisor of Springfield Local Schools and his twenty- fifth year in the field of education. From his wide experience with the problems facing youth and his understanding inter- est in promoting the growth of the individ- ual, he regularly counsels with the mem- bers of the graduating class, to aid them in choosing their life work or further schooling. This year the school system exceeded the one thousand mark in enrollment, and the present buildings became inadequate. Under his direction, a campaign for a pro- posed building program was successfully culminated with the passage of a bond issue in the amount of Sl90,000. Three new school building additions will be provided at the present Crissey, Dorr Street, and Holland elementary schools. Mr. Bishop's life is dedicated to the task of securing for every boy and girl the opportunity of receiving equally, a good educational foundation, Harold E. Ryder. B.S., M.S.. M.A. Superintendent Lucas County Schools Mr. Ryder is completing his sixth year as Superintendent of the Lucas County Schools. Besides supervising all the schools in the county, he helps in solving many complex problems of state and na- tional importance. He is a past president of the National County Superintendents' Association, a member of Ohio Reading Circle Board, and actively participates in many other educational and civic organi- zations. His thorough understanding of school problems has enabled him to ele- vate the schools of Lucas County to a high place in the Ohio public school system.
