ADMINI DR. L. HALDERMAN Slzperifztezzdezzt MESSAGE TO SENIORS Congratulations on your attainment of the standards necessary for graduation. You have successfully closed one phase of your life and are ready to move on to new ex- periences and goals. The road ahead has been charted by the lives of the great men who have gone before. I recommend you study these lives as you would a map. By so doing, you can prevent unnecessary detours on the road to your goal. Life is not an empty dream nor is the grave its goal. Rather, Life is God's gift to man to be used in such a manner it may deserve to become eternal. Thus, lives of great men do remind us and leave footprints in the sands of time-footprints to be used as guide- posts in making your lives worthwhile. You have the schools and my best wishes for the future. Resolve this world shall be just a little better for your having lived. Such a life will be filled with happiness and truly will leave footprints in the hearts of your fellowmen.

TRATION Principal TO THE CLASS OF 1957 The Scrivener theme for this year strikes a badly needed note in this world of ours. The dirge-sounders for our land of opportunity miss no chance to sing of the glorious days of the past when every young man or woman had limitless opportunities to succeed and to bemoan that these days are gone forever. You need but look around you to recognize that these are false prophets. The basic truths so beautifully put by Longfellow are just as valid today as ever. Hard, conscientious work, built on sound preparation and applied with imagination and initiative can lead to limitless horizons. Your school has made every effort to pro- vide you with opportunities for sound preparation and to instill in you the desire and need to work. Many have responded and have results to show. Others have not yet learned the full value of work and study and must wait a while before the realization comes to them. But when it does come, they too will go ahead to prepare for a success- ful future. Your high school education is but one step on the way. Your success here will have little meaning unless you continue to learn and work, in school or out as your lot may be. You must continue to learn to achieve but achieve you will if you strive to be up and doing with a heart for any fateg still achieving, still pursuing, Learn to labor and to wait. N ,
