When school opened in September. everyone enthusi- 2lSllt'2illj' entered into the many fall activities. The Alonitors. stationed at various posts throughout the halls. directed new students to lf10ll' classes and enforccd 1'0,Q,'ll1Zltl0I'lS. 'l'he football players. having begun practice in August, were in fine trim for the first game under the llgllllti at Prospect 1'2lI'K. During the next two games. the team ltinalned undefeated. on the lieiillllllll day ot' uctoher thlrteenth. when the Cougar spirit was as high as tue sun. the hand marched onto the held with its usual snappy precision, preceded hy the color guard with waving' nags and twirling hatons. C-ll-L-G-.-X-It-S ', cheered IHC excited crowd. as the cheerleaders spun in their skirts of gold and sweaters of navy lmlue. l'he squad jogged through the players' gate and the galne was lll full swing. At the half, the hand, color guard. and IXVll'ls:I'S performed one of their ClCV6'l' routines worked out in early morning practices. But despite the spirit. it was a disappointed crowd that left tue lield tnat afternoon when Swarthmore hroke Springlield's twenty-one game winning streak. The team, however. finished the season with three victories, three ties. and .hrce defeats. The girls' hockey team was a little more successful. Ten ot' the eleven girls returned from the 1944 varsity. With this advantage the team won tive games. tied two others, and lost only the one game to Radnor. Another cventful day was the play day at Beaver. In all kinds of weather the hoys of the cross country team could he seen taking their daily worksout. Their persistence was well rewardedg at the end of the season, Sprlnglield received the Delaware Founty Class li trophy. The auditorium was frequently the scene, during after-school hours, of re- hearsals for the play Curse You, Jack Dalton . This clever one-act melodrama was presented at Springfield and then at Vollingdale and at Lansdowne. where it was received with much enthusiasm. l'romises of an eventful Spring were evident in plans for the production of another play and prospects of seeing some plays in Philadelphia. The Spri-Hian kept the students in- formed ahout the latest school activities. The school paper boasts a circulation of five hundred copies for each of its six issues throughout the year. The memhers of the Commercial llluh kept the service men and women in touch with their Alma Mater. The clulu laid plans for the annual Spring luncheon, at which time otiicers for the coming year would he elected. The fall activities were climaxed with the Thanksgiving weekend. The foothall team tied Marple-Newton 125-123 and the I holiday spirit was at its height during 2 the annual formal dance sponsored hy the Student Council. Thus our footprints were pressed i lleneath the autumn leaves. Hai' . , I 3' :L .
