Recognized as one of the finest in the Middle West, the band is always ready when called upon to perform One of its most important ,obs is to play at the football and basket ball games and other important school events. This year the band started off with a trip to Columbia. Missouri, to play during the half of the lVlUfKansas state football game along with twenty other bands from all over Missouri. A new idea was inaugurated when the SHS band exchanged concerts with the loplin High School band Our band was host to joplin members overnight after their concert IAVES p ROBERTSON here and in turn our organization was entertained by them. Plans for purchasing new uniforms were begun this year through the efforts ofa music parents' club organized by Mr james P. Robertson, band director, lt was estimated that replacement of the uniforms would cost about SSDOO, which is a goal for the band to work towards Snappy new uniforms seem to lift musical spirit at Senior High and even make the band sound better, too, With lvlr Robertson at the conductors stand, the band has presented itself as masters of the concert field as can be seen by their record in music contests, Climaxing the year's work is the Music Festival and the annual state contest at Columbia, Missouri, in which the band has ranked as one of the highest in the state for almost thirty years Following this contest, soloists and groups go to the regional national contest, Our entire music department has established a reputation for thoroughness of preparaa tion and a willingness to do their share in all school activities
