These ‘‘Seniors’’ had been through a lot together. There had been many victories as well as many defeats. There were many friendships and memories they would never forget. These events bonded this class togeth- er. Making it through the good and bad these ‘‘Seniors’’ were better because of their experiences. Time capsule The school year 1980-81 was filled with much controversy, achievement, excite- ment, and as always, changes. Not only was there a new president elected, but the return of the Hostages from Iran brought much happiness to Americans. One of the greatest achievements of our country, was the successful test flight and return to earth the space shuttle “‘Columbia’’. But not only were there changes for the country, there were also many changes that have taken place right here in Springfield. Most of the controversy for the 1980-81 year at Springfield High was attributed to the addition of the fence. Students often mentioned the fact that SHS was turning into a prison. The start of a new decade brought many drastic changes in popular recreation. The disco era moved over for the very popular sound of New Wave Rock (Punk), and video games became the craze with Astroids leading the pack. Below-Space program got a shot in the arm when space shuttle shot into space. Middle Right-‘‘Another One Bites the Dust’’ by Queen was one of the most popular hits of the year. Upper Right-The fence caused much controversy for the population of Springfield High. Center Right-Asteroids was the most popular video game for many months. Far Right-Victor Tomseth was one of the ex-hostages from Iran. Middle Far Right-AC DC was also one of the popular Rock and Roll sounos of the early 80’s.
