NOVEMBER A Time for all Kinds of Change November 1980 not only brought changes in the weather from sort of warm to really cold - but with the Presi- dential elections came a change over in Government. Springfield took an active part in the elections. Although most of the students were too young to vote, a mock election throughout the school elected another term for President Carter. Springfield students lost out in the real election when President Reagan came out victorious. Local candidates came to visit in the resource rooms giv- ing students and teachers a better in- sight to local and state government. Another change came when the fall sports season ended and the winter sports began training full force. The girls and boys basketball teams sponsored a Donkey Basketball game to help pay for new shooting shirts; It was a hilarious success. Top Right: Senator Weaver makes his point. Center: A great big MILLERS sign encourages support for the rival Springfield-Thurston game. Be- low: A happy President Reagan who “loves Oregon’ and opponents Carter and Anderson. Bottom Right: Mike Walser loses to the Donkeys.

And the Fun Continues Pep Assemblies encouraged spirit and fun for the fall teams - with the warmer weather the assemblies were held outside in hopes to heat up the teams to some winning seasons. October was an active month. Hal- loween finished the activities with the pep bands, rallies and other strange creatures dressed up in all manners of ghoulish and crazy costumes. . .in hon- or of ‘All Hallows Eve.”’ Far Right: Frankie Bax looks confused. Right: Lisa Cogburn drops her pants. Below: Dusty Johnson stirs up some spirit. Center: Daren Deadmond does his share. Bottom Left: The J.V. Rally, crazy as usual. Bottom Right: The Rally, Weiseth and Dusty laugh at the J.V.’s skit. ae

DECEMBER Christmas Cheer and Holiday Spirit. December brought with it one glori- ous day of snow and two wonderful weeks of vacation. The first weeks were busily spent with the music department spreading around Christmas cheer. The marching band covered the streets of Springfield in the annual Springfield Christmas parade. Meanwhile the kaleidoscopes left traces of notes at the Eugene Mall. Pink slips came out, S.A.T. tests were taken by seniors, and a Christmas dance topped off the activities. Top: A combined orchestra and chorus sing the Hallelujah Chorus. Right: Students con- gregate between dances. Center right: Marching band Christmas trees anxiously wait to be sold. Bottom right: The dreaded pink slips bring home news of school. Bottom left: Frolics in the one blissful day of snow. Next page, top: Kaleidescopes vocalize on the mall. Far right: Led by drum major Garth Morrisette, the band parades down Main Street. Left: Dee Windom confides to Santa. Bottom left: A student strains his brain over S.A.T. test questions. Bottom right: The courtyard stands empty during vacation.
