tk? any .SZZAOO 5 6lI'L6! 0 0l'6 Old Springfield is the Best . . . This was echoed by l3OO students and innumerable alumni as another school year began. Over 400 freshmen entered on that first clay of school and gazed in wide-eyed wonder at the crowds of people iamming the seemingly endless halls. Where's room l6? My locker won't open. Was that the last bell? Yet, as the year wore on, even the green freshmen became polished enough to take their places on the team that makes the school run smoothly. They also assumed part of the responsibility for the upkeep of the school and grounds, and cooperated with the seniors in forming the Kangaroo Court. One of the finest athletic fields in the state was dedicated at the first annual Homecoming which this year replaced the carnival as a permanent tradition. But about the town itself. lt's located at the southern end of the Willamette Valley in western Oregon. Many of the men of the community are loggers, but agriculture provides many summer iobs for ambitious students. Fundamentally average, the Millers have the usual problems and pleasures - getting the car, hamburgers, finding a iob for the summer, biology notebooks, and hobbies - as all kids their age do. But Springfield High has its distinguishing character- istics - the added spirit and friendliness to make it a school always to be remembered by all who were ever a part of it.
