David's sudden passing came when we were just beginning the climb for knowledge. We have thought of him many times during our high school years, and he shall continue to be a part of us. In Memoriam I am going to my own hearth-stone. Bosomed in yon green hills alone— A secret nook in a pleasant land. Whose groves the frolic fairies planned; Where arches green, the livelong day, Echo the blackbird's roundelay, And vulgar feet have never trod A spot that is sacred to thought and God. --Emerson Our senior year was deeply saddened by the untimely death of our classmate, Nancy Jackman. On August 13, 1958, Chrissi Antonopoulou left Athens, Greece, the capitol city of her country, and flew to New York. She arrived in New York on the 14th of August where she was met by her aunt and uncle who brought her here to Springfield. While attending S.H.S. Chrissi has been living with Pat Boyce, a class- mate. Chrissi has been a friend to all. We feel proud and privileged to have had her as a member of the Class of '59. The American Field Service 50 Jim Hurd left Bellows Falls on June 24, 1958, for Miami, Florida, where he boarded a plane for Brazil. For two and a half months Jim lived with Colonel and Mrs. Luis Gomes Pinherio and their son, Eddie.” The Pinherios live in an apartment house, which is one block from Copacabana Beach, in Rio de Janeiro. Since he is very much interested in scouting, Jim was happy to spend a week with some Brazilian Scouts at a camp in the jungle. He also visited Sao Paulo, one of the main cities of Brazil. Since he has returned, Jim has shared with all of us his many enjoyable experiences. He has given all of us a greater insight into the lives of our neighbors in South America. Fred Jones left Montreal aboard a Dutch ship, the WATERMAN, on June 11, 1958, for the Netherlands. After ten days at sea, Rotterdam, the second largest seaport of the world, was reached. While in the Netherlands Fred stayed with two families. For the month of July he stayed on the Island of Texel with the Quint family. He spent the month of August with the Siebinga family in Gersloot, Friesland, a northern province of the Netherlands. While with the Friesland family, Fred and his Dutch brothers hitchhiked to the World’s Fair in Brussels, Belgium. On August 24 Fred sailed from Rotterdam for New York on the JOHAN von OLDENBARNEVELT. He arrived home with many memories of a very pleasant two months in Europe. 51 Yearbook Patricia Follett Marie Sadler Sports Photography Lorinda Wood and Ronald King Mrs. Pulsipher, Advisor Art Advertising A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur’s Court CAST Marion, his sister . . . .
