Fifteen students and a chape- rone from various parts of Argenti- na came to Springfield under the sponsorship of the Illinois State Journal-Register. While here, the Amigos visited Governor Ogilvie, the various Lin- coln shrines, and several high schools and universities. As American teenagers, the Amigos enjoyed parties, shopping, and sports. Blue jeans, cameras, and American records were the popular items on shopping lists. Dancing, basketball games, swimming, skating, and bowling, as well as daily parties, filled the evenings. American tears and Argentine invitations were the highlights of the departure as all feelings were expressed by the phrase, UNO GOODBYE BUT UNTIL THEN! A gathering of Argentine hippies! Luis Do Carmo was considering performing at the next Rock Festival. Deb Griffith and Luis Vidart share a very friendly Adios. ss. Y in ..,, Y. WQ X - .I . A short conference between tours.

East Meets West Via Program. Americans, though noisy and funny, are still very likable in the eyes of Pongpun Chuatong, Spring- field's own American Field Service exchange student. Du ring the past year, Tao was a member of the Lowell Anderson family. She and her American sis- ter, Margaret Anderson, shared the pleasures and trials of life at Springfield High. Tao's homeland is the province of Chiengrai in northern Thailand. She has quickly adjusted to a new climate, new customs, and new foods. Winter temperatures in her native land average 40 degrees, with summers from 70 to 80 de- grees. Until she came to Spring- field, Tao had never seen snow. The school system in Thailand is similar to oursg however, a student may receive his high school diplo- ma at the end of the tenth grade. The eleventh and twelfth grades are optional. SHS is indebted to Tao and to the Anderson family for their part in helping to create better under- standing between nations.
