Pep Club was conspicuous at football and bas- ketball games, as members enthu- siastically cheered the teams on. Much of its work had to be done after school hours, and loyal members could often be seen painting posters, cutting out tags, and arranging for buses to out-of- town games. Membership in the organization was open to all students interested in helping to build pride and school spirit in Springfield High. F. t. a. members learned about teaching Future Teachers, although they had a late start, managed to orga- nize themselves efficiently. At Christmas, they held a tea for the teachers in the faculty room. Home- made cupcakes were provided. F.T.A. also held two bake sales during the course of the year. Two S.H.S. girls, Carolyn Hield, a junior, and Rosemarie Bates, a senior, were active in the Student Obser- vation and Participation Program.
