Student enrollment at Springfield High School was reduced this year because of the opening ol the new Southeast High School. Less crowding in the halls and facilities oi the school made broader student program opportunities possible. Two modern language laboratories were installed which provided more struction. The supplementary book library was moved to a new and ini- proved location. The former supple- mentary book library became a sec- ond art room to expand the schools art program. Y L 599' ll g . john Turner, Assistant Principal if. ZH 7Z61f Szzpeffvism' A ciivifies This past year Mr. Turner and Mr. Hott encouraged more participation and enthusiasm in school activities. Although Nlr. Turner is very much interested in helping people, he stressed the fact that behavior proh- lems are not the only duties of an as- sistant principal. Some ol' his respon- sibilities include supervising fait-lilly and student social activities, handling attendance, and Working with the National Honor Society. Mr. 'I'urner's extra-curricular activities revolve around his interests in hunting and school athletic contests. V. Hoff Assumed New Position As our new assistant principal, Nlr. Hott has inany duties to carry out. Some of the operations which coine under his supervision are discipline, student office procedure, daily an- nouncements, scheduling, and super- vising counseling. Ile also works with Mr. Turner and Mr. Frankowialq on improving the curriculum. Mr. Hott also serves as chairman of National Honor Society. During his free hours, Mr. Hott and his wife participate in community activities, enjoy music, and belong to a total ofsix Parent-Teacher Associations. Preston Hott, Assistant Principal ' 'I 5

Among them were the September Open llouse to give parents an opportunity to visit their childs classes and meet his teachersg College Night in October to enable students and parents to in- terview the various college represen- tatives, the November meeting tea- turing Dr. Ann Pearson as guest speakerg the December Christmas Concert given by the combined choirsg and the April orientation for parents ofincoming students. Christmas Concert replaced the December meeting. 17
