e icationr As the pages of this book are bound together so is the feeling and affection for our Principal, Mr. Roy Wentz, to whom this Capitoline is dedi- cated. Springfield High School is fortunate in having a principal who has had many years of experience in the field of education and who also has an intimate knowledge of the community. In a sense Mr. Wentz has grown up with SHS, having served as a coach, teacher, dean, assistant principal, and since l948, as principal. lt is not surprising that he has devoted so many years of his life to young people, for he has kept young in spirit and outlook. One of his hobbies has been to assist the Boy Scout Movement, and he also has found time for a Civic Club, the Community Chest drive, and his Church. His interest in antiques shows his appreciation of the fine workmanship of past genera- tions. Mr. Wentz has insisted on a definite educational philosophy for our school that contends The increasing freedom from former restraints, resulting tensions felt by all in the present world situations and the growing change in attitude toward morals demand that a greater responsibility be placed on education in preparation for adult living. Adjustment to every day problems, getting along with others, aid in vocational selection, voca- tional training, worthy use of leisure time, mental and physical health, are some of the necessary aims of this working philosophy. Why must a man so valuable as Daddy retire? Full of the zest of living, he does not know how to withdraw from active life. And Spring- field will not let him say I am through. In whatever plans he has for the future, we beg to share.
