Dorothy M. Sohl Co-Editor Sharon M. O’Brien Co-Editor MASSASOIT NINETEEN HUNDRED EIGHTY-FOUR Volume LXXX Springfield College Springfield, Massachusetts 01109 Photo by Oodi Sow I’ve been lately thinkin’ about my life’s time, all the things I’ve done and how it’s been, and I can’t help believen’ in my own mind I know I’m gonna hate to see it end. I’ve seen a lot of sunshine, slept out in the rain, spent a night or two all on my own. I've known my lady’s pleasures, had myself some friends, spent a time or two in my own home. I have to say it now it’s been a good life all in all, it's really fine to have the chance to hang around, and lie there by the fire and watch the evening tire, while all my friends and my old lady sit and pass a pipe around and talk of poems and prayers and promises and things that we believe in. how sweet it is to love someone, how right it is to care, how long it’s been since yesterday, what about tomorrow, and what about our dreams and all the memories we share. Days they pass so quickly now. the nights are seldom long, time around me whispers when it’s cold. The changes some how frighten me. still I have to smile, it turns me on to think of growing old. For tho’ my life’s been good to me, there’s still so much to do, so many things my mind has never known. I'd like to raise a family, I'd like to sail away and dance across the mountains on the moon. DAVID LEONARD 1922-1984 Dr. David Leonard was a teacher in the department of history and served on the faculty of several Springfield area colleges. Dr. Miklos Ats wrote ‘Not everything in us dies. Dave lives with us: he lives in the minds of his students: he strengthens our dedication to preserve his ideas and stan- dards; he renews us in the spiritual and intellectual enrich- ment of our students. David was so young, so exuberant, so full of ideas, and when he grew tired, the Lord satisfied him with good things and his youth was renewed like eagles. Dr. Leonard’s intellectual and spiritual presences will be missed by all who knew him. IN LOVING MEMORY OF DR. JESSE PARKS JR. 1924-1984 Prof. Jesse L. Parks was a Springfield College professor and coordinator of graduate studies in physical education. We admired his enthusiasm, his resourceful creative mind, his dedication to his friends and students. He gave so much to us for so very little. The bright, challenging, sensitive presence of Prof. Parks will be missed on this campus. c: —1 1-V MGHBto . •'• . - - ■ ■ ywiuutirl f'rinyfrl (, 7-XU cf |I( yt S r A,,. Gettin' ready to catch some rays. I love Sunday afternoons! Could you keep the noise down? Two heads are better than one. I’d like to know you better though I already feel as if I do Meeting you has been so good . . . And if only temporarily I want to be your friend . . . I’d like to know you better. Carole King What magazine are you looking at? There's nothing better than a letter from home. Nothing better than a brisk walk Its too nice out to study inside. There's nothing like a nice leisurely picnic. 109 I go out all the time with so many people but when I need someone to understand me it is not these acquaintances to whom I turn It is always to you, my true friend Susan Polis Schutz Clift is showing us his Fred Astaire act. You think he'll notice me? no OK gang the parly can start I'm here. They’ll never find us in here. There’s got to be something better to do on a friday night To live is not merely to breathe, it is to act; it is to make use of our organs, senses, faculties, of all those parts of ourselves which give us the feeling of existence. The man who has lived longest is not the man who has counted most years, but he who has enjoyed life most. Jean-Jacques Rousseau Nancy Linda Hang out for awhile.
