The poem was read briefly, and not understood, but was placed on a wall in the corner of my room for four years. During Spring term 1974 I read the poem for the first time and fully understood what the author was trying to point out to all those who read IF Below is a paragraph from the poem: IF you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue. Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch. If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you. If all men count with you. but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run. Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it. And - which is more - you'll be a Man. my son! The realization and the full understanding of the poem IF represents the four years of learning that has been experienced at Springfield College, by me Elliott Dalrymple Time it was. Anj what a time it was. A time of innocence Atime of confidences. Long ago It must be I have a photograph. Preserve your memories; They're all that's left you. Scott A. WRA. 49 A thousand memories flash before us as we recall these college years: memories of growing from our families. of discovering new friends and ideas; sweet memories of love and quiet talks; deep memories of finding who we are; acid memories of anger, tears, and heart-break. For all these memories, we give you thanks 258 Poor Fletch. Don't believe what your eyes are telling you. All they show is limitation. Look with your understanding, find out what you already know, and you’ll see the way to fly. The shimmering stopped. Jonathan Seagull had vanished into empty air. After a time, Fletcher Gull dragged himself into the sky and faced a brand-new group of students, eager for their first lesson. To begin with,” he said heavily, you've got to understand that a seagull is an unlimited idea of freedom, an image of the Great Gull, and your whole body, from wingtip to wingtip, is nothing more than your thought itself. The young gulls looked at him quizzically. Hey, man. they thought, this doesn't sound like a rule for a loop. Fletcher sighed and started over. Hm. Ah ... very well,” he said, and eyed them critically. Let's begin with Level Flight.” And saying that, he understood all at once that his friend had quite honestly been no more divine than Fletcher himself. No limits, Jonathan? he thought. Well, then, the time's not distant when I’m going to appear out of thin air on your beach, and show you a thing or two about flying! And though he tried to look properly severe for his students. Fletcher Seagull suddenly saw them all as they really were, just for a moment, and he more than liked, he loved what it was he saw. No limits. Jonathan7 he thought, and he smiled. His race to learn had begun. Jonathan Imnplon Seatull by Richard Bach TheMACMIllAN COMPANY 866 Third Avenue New York N Y 100?? Collier Macroi’lan Canada ltd Toronto Ontario My feets is killen’ me!!
