Dear Graduate, Farewells are never easy. They are heavy with remembering and hope. They carry so much that can never reach the freedom of speech, seen only by the eyes of the heart. Still, like the ancient god Janus, farewells look in both directions at once — past and future — and gather up both moods of gratitude and expectation. To you seniors, then, our farewell is in the order of a fanfare, celebrating all that you have done and leave of yourself while here; and heralding your future in service to others and that of the College which goes with you. There will be much that we both forget. This is part of life's economy, lightening our load for swifter running. But there will be much never forgotten, snapshots of yourself in action such as are recorded- here. Like icebergs, they will merely punctuate the surface with the deeper prophecy of all that lies beneath and around these moments of learning. And, like Liza, may you leap from them into the future, not to escape from here, but to land running on the shores of all your tomorrows.
